As someone who watched PAC10/12 officiating, it got to the point where hating the refs was one thing that bonded all of us. We got so sick of so many bad calls and it's a shame to see how bad it is everywhere else. Felt as though in the Pac-12 we had our own niche of horrible officiating but seeing it be so bad is disconcerting. I know people say don't leave it up to officials but when players do exactly what they're supposed to do and the call goes against them then that's not leaving it up to officials, that's players and teams getting robbed of an opportunity they earned.

This is really no mystery. When conferences shifted from administering the paperwork and providing officials for the games to chasing money, the downfall began. Long-standing traditional match-ups were sacrificed, the conferences took over the schedules to serve the media desires (not athletes, students, faculty, or alumni), and are running the intrinsic value of the events into the ground in exchange for more revenue. This problem stems from the conferences providing the officials: huge conflict of interest.

I think CFB is a few steps away from being a sub category of NFL. We need to have a commissioner (I have a candidate in mind) we have to implement a limit on NIL; we have to implement a number of times a player can transfer. I still think Josh is on the money about the G5 having their own play off, the 12 team is insane but here we are. Officiating being a full time employment with the money involved is without question. I can’t think of another billion dollar industry where there isn’t any structure to the degree CFB is currently. Does the NFL get it right every time? Of course not, but if every player just left every team every off season, and keep in mind these are still developmental years, if a 21 year old played high school football we’d say it’s not balanced; yet we have a guy playing his 9th season at Miami.

O linemen literally have both hands full of jersey, the jersey is clearly being stretched out, and no flags for holding. WTF? I don't get it. I played outside linebacker and cornerback. I was never coached to play like they do these days. I see pro DBs making plays that I wouldn't get caught doing or Id get benched. Seriously, are they taught these days to not bother trying to look for the freakin' ball? I've seen so many times the DB has his back to the QB, and if they had had just played the ball, they could have had an interception instead of getting burned for a 40 yard gain. Blows my mind. Just cause a guy is 6'2" and runs a 4.4 40, that doesn't mean he's a legit DB. I seen play by pro DBs that they wouldn't start on a high school team. I just can't believe they have these hacks on the field. And don't get me started on the unnecessary roughness calls? We playing powder puff ball now? It's almost illegal to tackle a player now.

I'll make is simple for Josh on the cause. Instant Replay. Every sport which brings in Instant Replay the reffing gets worse. Yes, it is that fucking simple. The more you use it, the worse things will get. I have NEVER seen a sport bring in instant replay and things get better.

I agree it is not on the refs. Similar to the Texas v Georgia game where they initially made a bad PI call, in that case they later changed it to the correct call (though it was not reviewable). They are asked to make calls real time, if they get it wrong they are corrupt and incompetent, if they get it wrong notice their mistake and try to quickly change it, they are corrupt, incompetent and buckling to crowd pressure.
