I want to teach at the college level one day I noticed most colleges only require a masters in that specific field. I would be changing careers, so do you think if I have the masters to meet the qualifications that will be enough to possibly get hired or will it probably hinder me that I’ve never been a college teacher before ? I’ve only been a substitute teacher, and a pre-K teacher
@theacademicsociety Жыл бұрын
Different fields require different levels of education for college instruction. It's typical that a master's or phd is required to teach in higher education. However, things may be slightly different in an education department. I could forsee experience being valued in that field. You'll have to talk with someone in the area you are looking to teach in

Can you answer a question for me if someone in 7th grade doesn't do three months of their homework and did not attend zoom for 3 months, but they do well for the rest of the 7th-grade year and 8th grade and get a high GPA high SAT score, and ACT score and does well in high school does that mean they can get into NYU or other good colleges even though in 7th grade they didn't do three months of their homework and did not attend zoom for 3 months (asking for my brother)
@theacademicsociety4 жыл бұрын
In my experience, once you get to the next level, you previous achievements aren't as relevant. So when you are applying for college, you only send in your high school transcripts. When you are applying for grad school, you only send in your college transcripts, and when you are applying for jobs in academia, you only send in your grad school transcripts. So, I would say that your 7th grade GPA won't be looked at when applying for college. However, the study skills and work ethic you have grows from elementary and middle school. So it's important to start good study/school habits now. Hope that helps!

Hi ma'am. Im a Bs nursing graduate with an MA in Biology education and Phd in Biology education. Do I qualify to teach college level students with these credentials? Or should I align my bachelors degree to my graduate degrees to qualify?

In my experience, the field that you get your PhD in is what you would teach in. But I'm sure it depends on the field.

Today 02/11/2020 in the morning I went to a place just for register and I didn't know the class started 2 weeks ago the person in charge asked me if i wanted to start today (actually i was one hour late ) and from outaide I saw the class full I Said to myself Fuck it I'm here already and went in LOL I was very friendly and it was fun obviously I was a little nervous but during the class I relaxed and started introducing myself to some classmates everybody was nice :) Sometimes things happen suddenly but I like it.
@niklenea34274 жыл бұрын
On the first day of class, do you ask students to do introductions and state fun facts about themselves or anything like that? I know this can be a bit corny to do, but I was curious as to what most higher ed profs do to get to know their students on the first day of classes.
@theacademicsociety4 жыл бұрын
I do a discovery learning activity that gets them to work together to determine the distance formula. The active learning technique I use is called Crowd Crumple or Snowball where I get them to toss paper around the room. The students tend to enjoy it!

You are not a professor ma'am just a lecturer, stop claiming a title you don't have it is criminal
@theacademicsociety17 күн бұрын
"Professor" is just a title for someone who teaches at a university (and sometimes high school teachers are addressed as professors). For example, at my university, my position is called Lecturer but at a different university, my position could be called Teaching Assistant Professor or Clinical Assistant Professor (this is my mom's title at her university). All three of these roles require a PhD. You are likely thinking of a tenure-track position that requires research. When I was on the job market after grad school, I was offered two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions but turned them down for my position because I love teaching so much more than research. I mostly use the word "professor" in my video titles because the title is more widely known than "lecturer" which is typically a fairly new type of position at bigger universities. Hope that clears things up!
