My great-grandfather was a clarinet soloist in this band at this time.

I originally owned this cylinder in 1979. Bought it from Ron Kramer of Fort Bend, Indiana and sold it a few years later. Glad it is still preserved. Oldest known recording of Patrick Gilmore in existence. He passed away in September 1892.

This is a very wonderful recording review. I had originally obtained this cylinder plus others from this period in 1979 and had gotten them from the late Ron Kramer. He had found them in Gary, Indiana a little earlier. George Garabedian recorded these Gilmore recordings on his L.P. record that year and made Grammy Award Nominee for 1979. Rick Wilkins

My GG Grandfather, Jacob Rupp, was also a soloist in the Gilmore Band. I'd love to find a picture of him with the Band. He played with Gilmore for about 17 years, and then with Sousa for a Short time. He played the Bassoon with Gilmore. Are there a list of the 12 musicians who were involved in the Edison Wax Cylinder Recording of College Songs?

Clint Walker Clint Walker 1 second ago I don't know about all that dude, and I know your comment is one year old. But I looked online and someone has posted what appears to be some type of book or leaflet about Gilmore's Band. It's a PDF file, I don't know if you can open it or not. It's a number of pages longs. There are "drawings" of the apparent 15 soloists: SOLOISTS OF GILMORE'S BAND. Among the members of Gilmore's Band are to be found the foremost instrumental artists of the world; and no greater com- bination of splendid soloists has ever been brought together in any musical organization under the sun than those in the above group, representing some of Mr. Gilmore's soloists, all of whom w i l l be heard at these Jubilee concerts, and they have been mem- bers of this great organization for years. Following are the instruments played by these soloists : 1. B E N J . C. B E N T , Solo Cornet. 2. H E R M A N B E L L S T E D T , Solo Cornet. 3. M I G U E L R A F F A Y O L O , Solo Euphonium. 4. Benjamin C. Bent can be seen up front holding his Cornet next to Gilmore's left. Ben was 1st chair and soloist and co-conductor when Gilmore became ill. When he died his wife and daughter whom he shared the business with mentioned that Gilmore had the most confidence in Ben and felt he was the one that should conduct the band after his death. Ben left after 16 years shortly before Gilmore died and wanted a raise from his salary of $300. week to $350. a week. Gilmore mentioned to the wife/daughter that he felt bad losing Bent and was going to offer him the raise. Ben retired to playing music with his brothers and his wife Louise Linden, the saxaphonist. In the 1884 Manhattan beach Gilmore band photo Ben is standing exactly same place as above but his brother Arthur stands to his right, soloist in the band. Frederick Bent played a short assignment in the Gilmore band but was known for being bandleader of the 9th, 12th, and 69th regiment. Thomas Bent was the youngest of the World renowned brothers and was bandleader of the 69th regiment. Their collective band named "Bent Brothers Band".

My great grandfather played for a short time with the Gilmore Band, but in the 1870's so won't be on this recording. Really neat to hear though. Appreciate it...

Hi Dave, I have noticed that you have taken all the credit for this very rare cylinder recording. I would appreciate that you would give me at least some mention of issuing this recording. I was paid several thousand dollars for the original LP recording of this historical band. I thank you beforehand.

Dear @gramaphoneman1 - it looks like you may have missed the explanatory paragraph under the video, where I give credit to the source of both the recording, and the images. I took/take credit for none of it, but simply made it available online, after a wonderful visit with Michael Khanchalian a number of years ago. But if I'm missing something related to you, just let me know, and I will gladly credit you as well.

And another Bendy cartoon reference to this video, it should be called, "The Demon for two" or an orginal cartoon reference from Hoffnung, "The Butcher Gang Rides Again!" So that is what I thought.
