Great choice. This was written by keyboardist Robert Lamm after a visit to NY's Central Park. Lamm also carries lead vocals, with Peter Cetera singing backup.

Chicago was my first love and first concert at the Indiana State Fair. Love all of their music, they're definitely unique. Please check out "I've Been Searching So Long", it's a wonderful song!

Well said! Growing up back then, the thing with each group was to have their own unique sound. They were all different from each other and melody and talent were huge. I remember in a bio movie about The Beach Boys, they played a song to interview looking for a record contract. They played someone’s else’s song… they said, you’re good, but come back when you have your own unique sound and we’ll talk. It seems like today… come back when you sound like everyone else. You have soooooooo many groups yet to discover! Again, each one different from the other. The Moody Blues (Question) (I’m just a singer in rock and Roll band) The Kinks, The Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crosby, Stills & Nash.. & Young later) “Suite Judy Blue eyes”… I’ll stop… the list is endless. Appreciate your enthusiasm! 😀

This song was so popular for a while one really couldn't avoid it had they wanted to. But I believe we're all none he worse for it. Chicago's still a favorite of mine. Again, if you like the horns, do try out their contemporaries, Blood, Sweat & Tears.

You should check out Earth Wind and Fire, another band of a similar era with a great horn section. "September" would be a good song to start with. Also "Vehicle" by Ides of March is a heavy rock song with horns.

Young man, 65 yo guy here. My high school years 74-77. We were immersed in this incredible music you're just discovering. Boston, Journey, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Chicago and more all at once. It was a golden era. I feel so lucky to have been a teenager at that time.

The first time I saw them live was 1974. I saw them 3 more times through the years ending with Peter Cetera solo in 2018. Their onstage performance was incredibly uplifting and fun.

The other tune I fell in love with was 'Beginnings'......off of the same album. 'Blood, Sweat & Tears' was another band with a brass section.....around maybe a little earlier than 'Chicago'

"Beginnings" was from their debut album when they were The Chicago Transit Authority, "Saturday In The Park" was from Chicago V. "Poem 58" on the debut album was a 9 minute killer funk track led by Terry Kath on guitar.

Well said and right on, brother. And I'm so glad you finally mentioned piano because it's so important in this song. And in fact as someone who plays both piano and trumpet and a whole bunch of other instruments, one of the most amazing combinations ever is brass and horns in general along with drums and percussion, and keep in mind a real piano is technically a percussion instrument; it's very percussive; it's just that you have an incredible degree of control over it and you can be melodic at the same time and play intervals and multiple notes and everything.
