Thank you for the advice. Personally I found it a little insulting that you refer to community as a school for people didn’t get into a good college or who didn’t try hard in high school. I got really good grades in high school but decided to go to community college because its free in California. Community college is not just for student who couldn’t get into a good school.

I looked into transferring to MIT because they are #1 in aerospace, but it's not worth it at least for me there transfer acceptance rate is ridiculously low less than 100 students a year sometimes less than 50 so the work it would take to stand out enough is just insane. However, that's not what turned me away from it MIT basically accepts almost no transfer credits and you basically lose an entire year of credits when you transfer. Which isn't worth it considering they cost 60k a year. I hope you can do it, but I personally chose not to, because my state university UT Austin is a fraction of the cost and still ranks a respectable #7 in aerospace engineering while allowing me to transfer 99% of my credits.

Just to re-stress the last point about requirements - I HIGHLY advise that you figure out where you want to go by the time you finish the fall term of your freshman year. I made the mistake of figuring out which universities to transfer out to at the end of my 2nd semester, and by that time, I was behind on particular pre-requisites for "required" classes for the different institutions, and now I am not able to meet these requirements prior to transfer. It is very fortunate that in my case, I have much over 60 transferable semester credits and am transferring on an athletic scholarship, otherwise I would have to stay at my CC another year to get in my desired schools. DONT MAKE THIS MISTAKE!

Good news!!!! Princeton visited my community college yesterday, and they now accept transfers. The dean of admissions was also there, and they were very encouraging of community college students applying. You wont have a chance if you don't apply! We all got this. Also don't worry if you don't get in, there are plenty of other top schools that accept a lot of transfers like Cornell, UC Berkley, University of Florida etc.

Pro-tip: If you’re a current California Community College student looking to go to a UC, there is a guaranteed transfer program called UC-TAG. As long as you have a 3.4 GPA or higher and your Major is allowed to participate, you will be approved to transfer with an early decision. In Northern California community colleges, this includes UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara, UC Merced, and UC Riverside. (Not Berkeley) I believe some Southern California schools include UCLA and UCSD in their TAG. I did not personally do this, but I know many students that have. - UC Irvine Community College Transfer Student

fujii kentaro yes as long as you have a 3.4 GPA (on the 4.0 Scale) you can apply for TAG and will most likely be guaranteed a spot. All depends on your major and institution. That would require almost all As with a couple of Bs or a C maybe mixed in.

YumixNightmare good luck!! Stay focused, use your school resources, visit the writing center if needed. School is challenging, draining, and pushes you, but it’s worth it. I never thought I could get into a UC, but I’m now a straight A student at one despite my poor grades in high school. Set realistic and tangible goals for yourself, and don’t be afraid to ask for help and look for guidance when needed. Be open to learning from others, as well as being willing to grow from your own mistakes. That’s what helped me. You got this!

TheMatrix1101 not necessarily, Cornell’s actual transfer admit rate is actually similar to that of other Ivy League transfer admit rates. It’s super inflated because they give out Transfer Option (guaranteed admissions) after one year of attending another institution. They usually matriculate 780 students but around 300-400 are usually TOs. But you shouldn’t give up, keep striving to achieve your goal. Best luck to you :)

FYI, fellow Virginia residents, there's something called the Guaranteed Admission Agreement which means students at VA community colleges are guaranteed admission to any public university in the state (including UVA and William and Mary) if they take a certain amount of credits (usually 4 semesters worth) and keep their grades up (> 3.4 GPA for UVA, 3.6 for W&M) For example, I was dual-enrolled in community college classes in high school, and by the fall, when I turn 19, I'll have enough credits to transfer to UVA as a 3rd year and hopefully enough money left over to go to grad school. If you're a good student who wants to attend a prestigious school, but can't afford it, this is a great path to take, and it circumvents the stress of applying competitively to a billion colleges!

Note for most of the schools in California like USC, UCLA, and UC Berkley that those take much more from California CCs as transfers, I believe that they're required to, so if you're not going to a CA Community College those schools being easier to get into as transfers should have an asterisk by it and an even bigger one if you're applying to a public CA school.

You're right!! At least the public universities like UC and CSU have as part of their vision, mission, and purpose to provide the education to California residents. Campuses like Loyola Marymount, USC, Harvey Mudd College and others kind of started following in the footsteps of the public universities.

One bit of advice. Most state university systems now have articulation agreements with the community colleges and/or the community college system in their own state. For example, I live in NC and the UNC system has a Comprehensive Articulation Agreement with the NC Community College System in which if you earn an associate degree, you can transfer as a junior the university of your choice, albeit the university can reject your admission based on GPA, background check, and choice of major.

I got into a T50 for CS but chose to go to a CCC instead due to the bad weather and food where I got in. I didn't do too badly in high school and I got into the major of my choice but I found that I like the weather and food in California better which is why I will be transferring to a UC. Also community college is completely free in CA due to the Promise program, I would have had to pay 50k per year at the place I got accepted. Now I will have to pay ~50k for my entire degree which I think is a great trade off.

couple points for uc system transfers: if you are out of state your chances are little to none, more than 90% of uc transfers are from CA community colleges who are prioritized for admission. also if you are a CA community college student, depending on ur major your potential admission rate can be higher than 30% look up “uc transfer majors” and u will find a list of uc’s and their acceptance rates by major. guaranteed admission is also a thing for some participating uc’s for CA community colleges students. tldr: you’re chances of getting into your top uc school are raised dramatically if you’re are a CA community college student and depending on your major (business, CS, engineering, etc are still very competitive)

Can you please make a video on transient students? Is there such thing as a Transient Admission Rates? In that video or in a separate video, may you please make a video on Transient Students Time Schedule? How many weeks in advance should we apply to a Transient Admissions School? How many hours per week should we spend on completing transient applications? Should we apply as a transient student? If yes, then what are the indications we should look for that will rear us to that direction? If no, then what are the reasons that we should apply to our situation thus making us to repel from applying as a transient student? By the way, I've been watching your KZbin videos for a 2 years approaching now, and let me say you make college-content videos that I don't see any other College Consultant making. You can for many schools. If your scores aren't at the 50th percentile for admits it's likely a good idea to. A very small number of schools will only accept scores from high school though (often these schools may waive the requirement entirely as well for transfers)-be sure to check the website of the schools you're interested in.

Since I joined primary school ( we didn’t have nursery schools at that time), I got instructed solely in English though it’s the second language in my country. After high school( graduating at the top of my class in a neighboring country), I spent two years without going to college because my mom couldn’t afford it. Fortunately, I got a partial government scholarship (paying only tuition) to study in Egypt. Knowing this was my only chance to have a college degree, I decided to take the opportunity. But on arrival here, I got Arabic as the language of instruction in lectures though the Professors write in English; but it’s Engineering, and there’s not much write but mostly figures and derivations. I just sit in class staring at the whiteboard with my eyes wide open but nothing gets to my ears. This has resulted to me getting low grades. I want to transfer to another college, probably in the US. I feel like this should be one of the most important reasons I should cite in my Common App transfer essay. Would it feel like I’m talking bad about my college if I cite this reason in my essay?

Hi, Thanks for the informative video! What would be the benchmark GPA to transfer to an IVY League University? Also, even as a transfer, would one need outstanding activities for IVY's, considering that the acceptance rate is 1-2% for the elite schools?
@SupertutorTV
@SupertutorTV 6 жыл бұрын
One would need outstanding everything given a 1-2% admit rate. Great essays, a compelling story, a reason why changing schools would change the outcome of your life or the world around you. It would need a serious "wow" factor. That being said, I would say it's less about GPA than the wow factor at that point. The admissions standards I would aim for would be 75th percentile on all counts (GPA/test scores)-- pretty sure at that point the non-statistical elements matter more.

My niece who was an exceptionally high achieving high school student with really strong SAT scores went out of state to study engineering. She tanked the engineering math classes. She's in her 2nd year and has changed her major to business and is doing well. But the setback means she'll likely have to add another year of college. I'm wondering if she should transfer to an instate school to help cut back on the cost. She says her GPA isn't good enough to transfer. Wouldn't admissions consider how well she did in high school and recognize the engineering math was too difficult but she's doing fine in her business classes?

I kind of have the same issue, but honestly if you explain your adventure on why it took so long, it's probably not so bad as long as the answer wasn't because you didn't feel like going back to school for a few semesters.

So is it better to transfer from a Community College or a University? Would your chances of acceptance be higher if you transfer from a University to a top school compared to a Community College
@brookifyd
@brookifyd 4 жыл бұрын
depends on the college, but sometimes it's the other way around (particularly w/ California schools I know). Some schools do give pref to community college students, as they want to make meaningful impact, i.e. not admit kids who already go to a similarly ranked school and for whom the admission won't mean as much.

Is it possible for a transferee who just completed 2 years in college in our country, with an average of 3.8 to be admitted and apply for a full scholarship in an IVY league school without attending the Community College ? We will migrate in the US next year by Aug and planning to settle in Raleigh North Carolina . One of our major concern is the continuity of our son's college education when we landed .

Get the visa process started and have your transcripts evaluated by a NACES company (most widely accepted credential evaluation association. Applying directly as transfer from the international campus would give you a better chance for acceptance at an Ivy League than transferring from a community college in the US.

Hey, Super Tutor it is me, Jonathan Harris, from another post. I wanted to ask you, I am taking the ACT in February. The Act has a lot of reading in it, from the act English passages, the act math word problems, act reading passages, and act science passages on experiments. But my issue is that when I read those passages I am having trouble reading it, what do you suggest I do to get the through the passages while being able to retain what I read?

What's the best time to try to transfer? After one year or two years, etc.? And If you're applying for fall transfer admission, when do you apply? Thanks for the great video.
@puterjess

Jonah Williams I’m answering this as someone’s who’s applying to transfer currently so I can tell you some things. When you transfer after your first year your high school grades are counted in the decision because the school you’re applying to will only have one semester of college grades. When you apply to transfer after two years some schools don’t count high school grades or count them as heavily because now they have three semesters of college grades. You could always apply after first year and again during second year. Usually by the time you transfer to the school if you have 60 credits at your old school then your high school grades don’t effect as greatly. And the transfer application opened in August like how it does for seniors in high school. I’m in community college in my second year looking to be a junior transfer so I started my applications the first semester of my second year and the earliest deadline I have was February 1st for USC and the latest is in April

Hi, my daughter is thinking to transfer credits from Montclair University to SVA but my question is do you start as a freshman or sophomore? Into the school you are being transferred?
@gettingintocollege8857
@gettingintocollege8857 Жыл бұрын
Typically it is common for students transferring from a community college to start as a junior because their whole 2 years was focused on satisfying the requirements from the receiving institution (in this case School of Visual Arts). In this instance (which is an opinion but comes from 7 years experience as a transfer counselor in CA) your daughter would very likely start in lower division courses which are freshman and sophomore. Another thing to note. SVA sounds like a designated art school. Those are always difficult to transfer into as a junior because they have very specific courses they want as general education to supplement the art focus. Whenever I have a student that wants to transfer to the Academy of Art University, Cal Arts, and other similar schools, those schools usually only take about 15 semester units of general education if that. Last and definitely not least you should work with SVA to see what classes they will take. It makes for a smoother process and takes out the surprises that may come.

if you have about 50 college credits before you graduate high school because of the peso program, do you apply for freshman or transfer?
@brookifyd
@brookifyd 5 жыл бұрын
dual enrollment courses typically do not qualify you to apply as a transfer student, and students in courses like these should apply in general as a freshman. Student who received "dual enrollment " credit (i.e. courses were both working toward a high school diploma AND a college degree or credit) may count fully at local, regional and public state colleges but are often not transferable to elite, private institutions. Individual institutions (particularly local or public state colleges) may have different policies and you must contact those admissions offices to find these out.

Hello! Is it a big matter for a college that I have fulfilled that college’s general education requirements even though it is not a transfer requirements? (I’m a community college student and wishing to transfer to a prestigious college from Fall 2023 as a junior)
@gettingintocollege8857
@gettingintocollege8857 Жыл бұрын
It depends on what prestigious college, and if the community college you are coming from has an articulation with the 4 year university. To make your chances the best for acceptance it is strongly suggested that you complete all of the general education at your community college. This way after transferring you can complete your bachelor degree in two years. Another thing to note is private universities and colleges are more willing to take a student that has not completed all of general education, because at the end of the day they know you're going to pay a pretty penny for taking those same general education courses at their institution.

If you could only see the Niche results for "Will I Get In." Given they focus on high school entrance. I'll share this! Universities want a well rounded campus where students can learn from students, students can learn from professors, and professors can learn from students. So just know that there are students that got into U Penn with less than a 3.0, and even less than a 2.5. Given those are outliers in the data. Most students do have very impressive gpa's. The thing is you have to communicate your value and well roundedness to U Penn.
