Our respect for sharing your honest thoughts! Modules are often complicated devices (especially Collide 4). And as an additional complication, they're not simply there to solve a problem or provide a service, but instruments meant to inspire personal creativity. This makes them challenging to feature or review. We'll always support creators who show their own experiences, helping people to make up their mind and make the right decision for them.

My sincere thanks to you, posting this additional episode on the Collide 4. A well-balanced take on its complexity versus its use. Well done!

rolando rototoms!!! 😂I love it!!! I'm eagerly awaiting my C4 to appear under my Christmas tree from Santa. It's been a bit of a wait since seeing the reveal in Bristol in person and then just missing out on the first batch here in the states... good things come to those who wait so they say. Thank you again for your videos.... always a treat to watch

This cross-modulated exploration is what I adore about the mysteries of the Benjolin (After Later and for Eurorack Venom in VCV). There is such a vast sonic landscape to explore that it does seem magical, and is at the same time a tangible expression of the fundamental properties of electrons and physics. Please ignore hater(s) and keep making noise, and these videos.

I don't have a problem with people who know better and more, and are proud of it. I am also fine if they feel a bit 'elite' because they went to MIT or Harvard and most of us did not. They earned it. I learn a LOT from them. I am not fine with 'people' hurting other people's work for the fun of hurting other people - in my channel's comments. But I learned to just mute them so they can write whatever they want and nobody will ever read it. I am sure it's just one or two, or one with many accounts.

@@CinematicLaboratory I made a comment stating it's not even a lock-in amplifier, and that I'm not even sure that Heinbach nor Joran even know what a Lock-in amplifier is. I've been annoyed by the smugness and arrogance by both of them with this release, but well, my comment was deleted as I guess positive comments only. No idea what other people were saying, I'm a big fan of your videos but not a big fan of this brand nor the chap who's got his name on this module.

@@Timothy_Dalton33 I'm not sure I know what a lock in amp is either, to be honest. This module seems to have most of the components from what I gather reading about them, and can therefore do a crude fisher price lock in amplifier's job, I suppose. But I don't know -- never used a lock in amp and i'm not an electronics tech or a physicist. But I'm curious, if you'll indulge me. What is it that makes this module not a lock in amplifier, at least in a breadboarded fashion? I'd really love to know what sets the two apart.

@nickmarkham3743 The manufacturer is in these comments, ask him to tell what you a real Lock-in amplifier does and ask him if this module does the same, and how.
@nickmarkham3743

@@Timothy_Dalton33 I've looked up what a real lock in is and does, and I see what the module is and can do. They're very similar, and its even demonstrated in this video that collide 4 is capable of doing the same process, although whether or not it gives accurate results is entirely up for debate. But as this is a module for making sound with, I'm not entirely convinced that matters, and as far as I can tell, they're up front about the differences -- such as the "time constant" being a simple lowpass filter and not tuned the same as a lock in amplifier's time averaging filter. . . I asked you because it sounds like you know what a lock in amplifier is and is used for, and I'd like to learn more about it from someone in real time if I can. But i'll take you up on your challenge and shoot Joranalog a message on a forum if I can remember later. Cheers!

Follow your music. Not all modules are for everyone. We build a musical instrument every time we patch. That's how I think about modular synthesis, is I am building a new instrument, daily. Now, would there have been an episode #4 if the comments had no kvetching and dramatic hand-wringing? 😊 At some point my Collide 4 will arrive. Until then, I must watch your videos and dream of what will come.

Wondering if I made the right decision to get one and still asking after buying one. That is ok when it is a 300 or 400$ module. But, here in canada it's 1000$. So no wondering for me to get one. Even after I hear the magic you did with it.
@CinematicLaboratory

I am hoping yours is canadian dollars, wich is 670 euro. If you'd add everything up in separates (doepfer) I ended up with 1500 euro. You can basically get two C4's compared to an affordable Doepfer build. So yes, I think it's definitely worth it. The real point is to fgure out if you'd make use of it, or if you'd rather make loops, grains, ambiences, etc. Your favorite music is key here. It took me four episodes to figure it out, so it's not unlike a Serge panel where you'd start with an open platform, almost like a breadboard. For me, personally, there's nothing like Serge and it's my most cherished collection. I hope this helps, and there WILL be tutorials!

I'm surprised, and perhaps confused. Did people give you a hard time for your opinions before? You seem almost apologetic in the beginning of this video. I look at devices like the collide 4, moog sound studio units, and other semi-modular or all in one voice type modules (softpop, benjolin, etc) as concise patch in a box devices. Something you can buy and explore or read about and get ideas from that you can explore yourself -- or both! Patch a DFAM next to your existing DFAM and modify it as you see fit! Similar to reading Allen Strange and wiring up a dream machine and sorta living with and manipulating that patch as if it were a dedicated piece of hardware for several days. Except, of course, you get all the hardware pre wired for you when you buy a dedicated box or module. . . As far as I know, this is how you treated collide 4 in episode 3. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe i'm reading into things a bit too much, but it seems odd that folks gave you a hard time for a valid opinion. It's modular -- there's room for this view and others in it. I built/planned my modular system around being able to patch program several of the devices mentioned above, even though it would have been cheaper to just buy a moog sound studio and a couple of behringer neutrons and mutable clones (if you can stomach their recent hideous panel designs >.

Wow, thanks so much for your comment, it's very highly appreciated. As for EP03, I've been asking to get a bit of 'controversy' while asking if we'd need a 'lock-in' amp. Sure I knew the answer was No, but this doesn't mean we don't need a C4. It's a great module but it needs to mature like Cognac. I had some people calling me totally clueless about lock-in amps, which felt bad, but I also didn't prove I knew how they work. They had a point. My real issue was with some people who openly insulted my fellow KZbinrs and Joranalogue as a manufacturer with no other reason than to shit on someone's table and go to the next one. I deleted those comments and muted them, so they were completely unacceptable. It has nothing to do with freedom of speech or sharing a personal opinion. I also learned not to take anything personally, and I used 'angry mob' sounds in this episode for fun. I learned that 'lief' is an english word too, which means the same as in dutch. It's different from 'be nice', which I find very directive. It's more like 'if it's not too much of a trouble, try to be nice to each other for a change'. Take care and thanks again!
