+Kathryn Friedlund Thanks so much for the nice comment! :) I’m glad you found it helpful:) I love dandelion jelly but haven’t made it in years. I need to again! :) lastly, I don’t normally rinse the flowers because I don’t care if bugs get out, but I rinsed them in the tutorial because that’s what most people consider the “right” thing to do… Have fun! :)

@@CollinsCountry thank you for the extra info and tips and your comment! I harvested some honeysuckle tonight and found some white honeysuckle (Morrows) and also pink honeysuckle (I believe it is Tatarian honeysuckle). Have you tried it with the pink honeysuckle? I am planning to follow your instructions from the video and excited about it!

+Absorbed Self Reliance Good for you! My mom canned A LOT growing up, so I’ve had an excellent teacher! :) And yes. I never ever ever get the right amount of cans ready 😂 I always over estimate though just in case. This recipe fills 7 of the 8oz jars. I put in the bigger ones 🤦♀️ Anyway. That looks so delicious! I have a honeysuckle plant and was just searching for what to do with the flowers. I am defiantly trying this. Just one question. Can I dehydrate the flowers and then can them at a later date or will they lose to much flavor? Thanks so much for sharing your recipe!!
@CollinsCountry Жыл бұрын
+Kathrine Rodriguez Hey! I honestly have never tried anything from dehydrated flowers. My gut tells me that it would work but not as well because when the flowers are dehydrated I feel like they would lose a lot of nectar… It’s honestly so easy to make that I would just try making it while the honeysuckle is ready:) And if you do dehydrate them let me know how that turns out because I’m very curious ! Good luck:)

@CollinsCountry7 ай бұрын
Hey! I have no idea. But the amount of nectar that comes from honeysuckle is so small that you would probably need to get buckets worth of honeysuckle to make any sugar.

Do you have to water bath them to "can” them or can you just put the lid on an the heat of the jars/jam will seal them?

Do you pluck off the green ends?
@CollinsCountry Жыл бұрын
+Kimberly Morgan if you’re talking about the tiny little green piece that is at the end of the flower then no. You can leave that on:) But don’t put any leaves or greenery of the plant into the tea:) That can add bitterness…

The rinse doesnt take away any of the nectar? Im really curious about this step
@CollinsCountry Жыл бұрын
+Scott King I’m glad you asked! Honestly, I don’t normally rinse them:) I only did it in the video because it’s the “right way to do it because it gets any bugs out, etc. but I do not normally rinse them because he’s, it does since out some of the nectar but it still has a great honeysuckle nectar taste:) if you are okay with the possibility of a bug being in there then don’t rinse. It’s getting strained out anyway so to me no big deal, but some people really don’t like the thought of bugs being in there. I hope this helps!

Do they need to go in the fridge for storage or can they sit in the pantry like jelly and jam from the store?
@CollinsCountry2 жыл бұрын
+Mrs. Owen Hello there!!! :) if you “can them” they can sit in a pantry for years (until opened and then they need to be refrigerated). But if you make the jelly and then put them into jars just to store them (and not do the canning process) it will need to be refrigerated immediately. I hope this makes sense:) Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions!
@Psalm2710_2 жыл бұрын
@@CollinsCountry Thank you! I'm new to canning so I followed your video and boiled them for 5 minutes just like you did at the end, is that "canning" or did they need to be pressure canned?
@CollinsCountry2 жыл бұрын
+Mrs. Owen Welcome! :) Canning can be very overwhelming when you start, but it’s easy once you understand the basics:) It is considered “canning.” Boiling in water is called “water bath canning.” Lots of things can be canned in water bath, but some thing require a pressure cooker (beans, etc). I hope you like the jelly! We love it:)

+Chicken Permission honeysuckle comes in two varieties: the bush and the vine. The vine has WAY MORE NECTAR and is preferred for making stuff with, but I made this with the bush honeysuckle. I have been doing it for years and it works well. Did you take all the green off? If any leaves get in it can make it bitter. It should just be the yellow and white honeysuckle flowers… Good luck!
