The last boat had all the passengers in the bow and it seemed relatively stable in the following seas. I think this was the captain's choice. Can someone explain why this weight distribution would be stable in these conditions? Or is this just my imagination?

in fact the last boat is heavy and with enough engine power + the weight of the people in front means that it can pass without too many problems. but it really happened at the right time. thanks to you

It keeps the boat level. He chose a wave stuck his nose (bow) in it and kept speed with it. If too much weight is in the stern the bow comes up and it can wallow, but most of all the skipper can't see the wave in front. Excellent seamanship by a pro
