The pilot boat has AIS navigation and knows exactly where the ship is. The destination is the ship. A pilot must get off the pilot boat and climb a ladder onto the ship. Perhaps you should learn about the role of pilots and the procedures before making comments.

In such close quarters AIS is irrelevant. Please keep in mind that boats do not have brakes. Pilot boats are built strong because they are always ramming/bumping into ships.

Pilot boats are used for Cruise ships and large vessels for bringing them into and out of port. Google it.......

The pilot boat must meet up with ships to transport a pilot to the ship. The pilot then climbs a ladder onto the ship, takes over navigational control and brings the ship into port. This happens every hour of every day all over the world.

this pilot boat captain, skipped a few pages in the book. he probably belive he could manage to do it all in one turn and totally forget that a large vessel will suck smaller vessel into it! what he should do was to come along side the ship a little a head, keeping a parabel distance of 15-30 meters, match the speed for so gradually lower it position to where the lader is and first then very slowly close in. thus minimize risk of mishap like this
