Abstract: We will hear about the fascinating journey of a young and very special observatory, the JWST, right from its initial planning, through an arduous design and development phase, through a perfect launch and deployment sequence, to its exciting future of countless groundbreaking discoveries. We will learn about the feats of engineering needed to develop this observatory, the impressive science instrument payload it carries and its spectacular capabilities. We will also see how truly global this mission is and learn about the very special role the Space Telescope Science Institute plays in its operation. We will take a look into the diverse and enormous array of science planned with JWST, and if the timing is just right, we might even get an early sneak-peek into the spectacular discoveries this observatory will deliver.
