Frances Ruffelle sings like a teenage Bernadette Peters. And I mean that in a beautiful way. No wonder she ended up winning a Tony for her role on Broadway.

I love Frances and Colm!! And that was a nice Terrence Mann cameo at the end ;)

I was able to see Mann a few years later in Scarlet Pimpernel. Quite a thrill.

@@bcputheatre I just checked out your channel; seems I have found a fellow Lesmiserablesphile! If you have any more content of the original Broadway Cast, it would be much appreciated!!! 🤗

This is so wonderful, thank you for posting!!! Colm and Frances are my absolute all-time faves ❤ I used to play Bring Him Home and On My Own on repeat back when I was a kid. And that wasn't easy considering I only had a cassette tape!

I saw this on Broadway 25 times from 1989-1990. Unfortunately never saw the original cast but I did meet and speak to Michael "Marius" Ball outside "Aspects Of Love," which was pretty cool. (I saw "Aspects Of Love" three times!) I just recently got into the album again after many years (the cast album, not the truly awful movie) and realized anew how this show was the equal of anything you can name from the 1940s on including "Oklahoma!" "Carousel," "My Fair Lady" and all the rest. I'm sorry to say Broadway today has mostly devolved into jukebox musicals, celebrity showcases and the turning of hit movies into Broadway "musicals" which always, always suck. Like popular music, the era of the truly innovative is long gone. There is always hope, though - that's what "Les Mis" teaches us!

Wow! I'm envious that you saw Ball in Aspects of Love!

at least the cast albums that came after London didn't make the same mistake London did (rushing the end of "One Day More")

Colm *Wilkinson* is not Canadian, he was born and raised in Ireland. Colm (with his wife and children) moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1989 when he was cast as The Phantom in the Canadian production of The Phantom of the Opera. Colm and his family loved Toronto so much that when The Phantom gig ended they decided to remain in Canada on a permanent basis. They maintain a second home in Ireland as well.
