I live in Pereira and am about to check out Manizales, so found your vides and eventually landed here. Thailand and Colombia are two of my favorite countries in the world, so that's a comparison I was curious to watch. For me, Colombia wins, but the kitchen in Thailand is SO darn good, it's a very close call. Also, yeah, beaches are more beautiful in Thailand. I especially loved Chiang Mai, imo one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But I do have a very different impression of the honesty factor in Colombia: Living here for in total of 4,5 years, I have come across so many good and kind-hearted people who went out of their way to make sure I was safe, didn't get robbed, paid gringo prices etc...for me, this completely outshines the (admittedly) existing bunch of rotten apples. I understand that your last experiences in Colombia left an extra bitter taste, but I really think the people here are one of the things that makes this country so beautiful and livable. -- Pitty I couldn't say hi to you in person in Manizales. It’s normal for generations of family to stay together even after marriage where we look after our parents til they pass. Matter a fact we dance n wild out just like South Americans (especially in Northern Isan). You gotta remember they call us jungle Asians for a reason cus we’re soulful people. Look at our language n the way we carry ourselves. We’re loud n not shy at all. The “keeping to yourself” is an East Asian thing. Loved the video but I gotta keep it 💯 with you fam

Great video! Great analysis! I’ve been in Medellin for over a month now and the fantasy is non sense that most KZbinrs put out there. Even knowing intermediate Spanish, the reality is the mas majority of men only will have access lower strato women 1 and 2 and prepagos. 3 and 4 are reluctant to date foreigners in this paisa regionalista culture. You have to deal with entitled, flaky, opportunistic women and have to screen them hard for your safety in Medellin. Is it worth it to stay here to hopefully get in with 1 or 2 local groups? For me, no. I can see now why you moved to Manizales and assimilated in a church and found a decent woman (middle class). That is not easy to do in Colombia at all! Granted, I empathize with how that unfortunately played out. It’s not that easy to date here guys, you just don’t know what they are into in Medellin and there is a different set of rules that these chicas place for foreigners. You have to really pay attention to their actions. Single moms are everywhere which takes them out of taking them seriously for me. I think that Colombia is seriously overstated and the values of women can be very dark. If you have the resources i definitely recommend you invest in trying other countries in Latin America. You only need a month in a city to see it for what it’s worth. I overbooked Medellin for 1 month. I’m good on Medellin.

Subtitle: Comparing a country where I speak the language to another where I can't and don't have interest in learning. It's easy to become 80-85% efficient in Thai and the fact that Thailand was never colonized is a HUGE reason the country and its people are world renowned. The fact that Wes hasn't discussed the Speak Easy scene in Thailand illustrates his mostly Westerner tourist take on it. Colombia is a great place to visit (at least the cities I visited) and its people are fantastic, but safety is a huge reason I wouldn't live there. Every Canadian I know that has lived in South America has went thru a mugging incident, many of them violent. Thailand, like Anthony Bourdain said in a No Reservations episode about Chiang Mai, changes you forever. When you visit it or any SouthEast Asian country, you realize you've been living your life, up to then, in black and white. Falling in love in SE Asia hits different, affecting a different part of the heart (I fell in love with a Swedish girl in Chiang Mai in the early 2000s). An experience where you speak the locality's language is a totally different realm to one where you don't.
@WheresWes Жыл бұрын
Fair point, but I don't think it's easy to get efficient in Thai. Most people who live in Colombia can't even speak basic Spanish and it's a much easier language to learn than Thai. Most people won't take the time to learn the native language unfortunately
@graysonganoosh2437 Жыл бұрын
@@WheresWes It's one of the fastest languages for one to obtain working proficiency in speaking it (obviously not in reading/writing it). After two and a half months of real immersion, a foreigner can "get the ball over the net consistently" but will probably make tonal mistakes regularly. All the guys I know who did stints at Buddhist Temples there or a few months living/training at a Muay Thai gym achieve it. People who go there to teach English also have success, but it takes longer since their job removes them from true immersion. The military lists Thai at 1000-1200 hours to reach working proficiency (full CEFR B2 into CEFR C1) , so about 80 days if one doesn't fall into the trap of hanging out with the many Westerners there (which is easy and commo to do). Adding reading/writing more than doubles the time to 2,500 hours.

As a middle class income Colombian I'll say Colombia is a country of contrasts. As there's a lot of inequality there are both safe and unsafe towns and cities as well as neighborhoods inside each city, northern Bogotá is a safeheaven while southern Bogotá is literally Mordor 🤷🏽 the center is a mix. If you have the economy and choice well you'll surely can live like a queen on some of the most exclusive and safe areas in the country for relatively cheap. Same goes for education, food, etc etc, you can eat in an "expensive" international cousine high quality gourmet restaurant (20-30 bucks per plate as of extremely expensive) or only spend 4-6 dollars (or even cheaper) per plate and eat local dishes abundantly with average taste. 😊 Eating at home is also superb, healthy and cheap, we always have extremely good quality organic, vegetables, fruits and other products and ingredients all year long and available everywhere.
@Dah427 ай бұрын
I'm Colombian, and I'm not as positive and optimist as the other person who answered you. One thing is clear: visiting Colombia as a single man is a different story than as a single woman or a single mother. While men may only be risking their own lives by visiting Colombia, women and mothers face more significant concerns. Whether you're planning to visit Colombia alone or with your children, it's crucial to consider the risks involved. Additionally, white or black people, particularly foreigners, can stick out in certain areas of Colombia. This can be problematic, as criminals often target individuals who stand out from the crowd.

Colombia is nice to visit and party. That is about where it ends. I've lived in Medellin for 7 years now. It's an ugly, dirty city and kind of boring. I've done all the pueblos in Antioquia. I've done Tayrona, San Andres, Pereira, Cali and several other cities around the country. STDs are also an issue in Medellin. I try to cook my own food because the restaurant scene in Meddy isn't that good. The food on the coast is better, particularly if you like seafood. Colombians are bad with business and it often takes much longer to get basic stuff done like buying groceries doing business at the bank. If you have things in common with people in Colombia, you can have a good time with the locals. If you don't have things in common, you will probably be a mark. Colombian women are definitely prettier and have better bodies than Thailand but that's it. I've only been to Thailand once so I can't compare but I question that Colombia really is that much better in terms of nature and things to do? I see KZbinrs doing a lot of cool stuff in Thailand. Also, Bangkok looks way more modern than anywhere in Colombia and you seem to get a lot better apartments for the cost.

From a european perspective, the asian countries like Thailand seem to be somehow safer and "nicer" than South America, but at the same time more chaotic and unknown because of the big language and cultural barrier, which can make it seem a bit more scary than "known" dangers you encounter in South America. for example in South America even if you would land in jail, you could at least halfway stand your ground and cooperate with the other people around you and lawyers etc., while in Asia you wouldn't even know why you are in jail until someone translates it for you and so on. Concretely I'm thinking about moving out for some time as soon as SHTF again in Europe and I'm searching for countries where it would be legal to grow some special flowers for breeding own seeds etc.

Three years ago I cast my lot with Colombia due to my desire to get out of the U.S. and Colombia at the time being the path of least resistance. Retirement visas were super easy, and the country opened back up after covid well before Thailand did. Now I'm starting to wonder if I should have been more patient. Whereas I like some aspects of the culture here, there are others that become a pain dealing with on a day-to-day basis, and as someone who is more introverted I now think Thailand might have been a better fit. Having earlier this year gotten approved for my 2nd 3-year retirement visa I'm not ready to call it quits yet, but I'm not ruling out Thailand in the future either.

In this Colombian traditional context, all is not well without its challenges. Colombian churches should exercise mindfulness, and it's crucial for church leaders and clergy to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of their fervent teachings and practices. These churches incorporate various rituals and religious traditions into their daily services, which undoubtedly influence the lives of their members. While they aim to instill ethical values in young girls and discourage them from pursuing debauchery, prostitution , drugs and certain paths, the unintended consequences, including their perspectives on marriage and women's roles within the institution, can be severe. Consider, for instance, your case the seemingly amicable Asian KZbinr individual, @WheresWes, who fell in love and went into the traditional route whose life was thrown into turmoil due to his marriage to a devoted Colombian churchgoer or atleast that’s what you thought she was traditional. You attribute the struggles to the continuous interference of the Colombian woman's family members , imposing the so called pseudo Christian beliefs and the interference of the church clergy. Leading a divorce, he was compelled to seek exile and refuge in Thailand, due to you facing daily death threats by the same Colombians Church compadre’s you trusted.

Im bashing my brains out here. I've been torn between Thailand and Columbia. I need a dental implant. Talked to a dentist in Bogota. He seems great. I also talked to one in Thailand. Still not sure about them, so would look around more. Anyhow, I have 3 weeks time to spend. I've been to Thailand before actually stayed there a really long time. Ive dated a lot there. I've had a Thai girlfriend here in the USA for 8 years, up till last Wednesday. She rolled out, because im not getting married. This woman is very toxic. And cheated on me a lot. I'm a Christian, so I think it would be better to be with somebody Christian. Although if this guy's saying, Colombian women are a bit difficult, which I heard other reviews about them, I'm not into bossy women. Anyway, I booked a flight today to Thailand, but I can cancel it within 24 hours. I'm still thinking about it. I don't feel ready for the long flights to Thailand, At the same time I don't feel ready to go to a country I never been before, alone and get lost, or robbed. I know my way around Thailand and I know a lot of people there. Actually, the mass transit system in Bangkok is great. I guess im choosing safety and simple, over violence and learning my way around. Mixed reviews about the violence. As far as hotels goes, i was recommended to stay in hotes that wasn't cheap, because of the crime in Bogota. So, 50 a night in Bogota, verses 20 a night in Bangkok, some places less. I did the math, hotel, flight and all combined. Probably not much different after saving on the flight to Columbia. So, long expensive flights, time change, over short flights, same time zone, but higher priced hotels, and sketchy area's, over not worried about leaving my hotel at any time, with my phone in my hand. That's the biggest thing that raised red flags about Colombia. If I can't use my phone in public, that sounds pretty bad to me.

@@WheresWesis there a fee for that? Anyway I do appreciate it either way. I think I could help you as well. I lived an amazing life in Thailand. I only stayed there like 6 and 7 months at a time but it was really great. I was just very happy. I had to come back to America because my son got in trouble with weed. Weed only 20 years in prison. I'm here fighting for his freedom. Anyhow I'm leaving for Bangkok on Wednesday the 15th. My girl who left me last Wednesday isn't liking it very much. Sounds like a personal problem. Just so you know there's some really toxic women from their. They know how to hide it until they got you where they want you. Luckily I didn't get married. Anyhow, I still have Columbia on my radar for the future. I think me going there the first time I should go with friends. The first time I went to Thailand I met a girl from the internet and picked me up at the airport and took really good care of me. After reading reviews about Colombian women I don't think I should do that. Anyhow, it would be nice to connect with you.

Brother, you need to do better research before making videos like that. A lot of your statements are personal perspectives without any evidence. 1. Colombia is way less developed than Thailand. Just check the Human Development Index! 2. Thailand is one of the biggest hubs for digital nomads (Esp. Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Panghan)...Watch at the Nomad List.

You are wrong in the stability part, you show the protests that took place in Colombia, but Thailand had massive protests against its monarchy, I don't think the monarchy is a point in favor, recently I saw how they imprisoned a guy for criticizing the monarch on the Internet, Colombia is classified as a free democratic country, Thailand as a pseudo-absolutist monarchy not free, which of the two has more stability?

Stop blaming Venezuelan for Colombians crime, speacially for a country that has a crime history of more than 50 years, they also voted for a Guerrillero president, excuses are for losers

Can you really compare the culture ? Thailand is not open to foreigners Latin Americans are open to everyone. We are very mixed . Thai people will talk about you behind your back and are racist yes polite but not honest because they get embarrassed easily. I was there for 3 months and yes I loved most aspects but not really the culture as I am not Asian. I’m Colombian American and you being Asian American you are still more accepted .
