Yes, Colombians are made up of various races (just like Americans/USA). And unlike Mexico and Peru, Colombia had a much smaller indigenous (Native-American) population. Since the Spaniards used the indigenous population as slaves, Africans were imported due to the lack of Native-Americans. Colombia also had an influx of Spanish, French, Italian and Arab immigrants (a large percentage of Colombians are of Arab descent). However, the major difference between the British invasion of North America and the Spanish invasion of Latin America, is the British brought their wives/family to the new world while the Spanish Conquistadors (men) didn't...they left their wives/family in Spain and started new "mestizo" families with the natives.

You forgot certain groups that came in throughout the centuries to Colombia. Among them, Jews, Gypsies, and Basque. Also, the British and Portuguese. Proof: Cemeteries and records. Other Europeans also immigrated to Colombia and don't forget the Africans ( slavery) and Asians (Chinese, Korean, Japanese). Also, looking into records people in the past changed their last names to make them more Spanish, but you will also find that some did not. Genealogical records are very helpful. The young man in the video gave a generalized history. Giving a generalized history is like saying that only the British arrived in the USA. Also, Colombia used to be a major trading post during colonial times. During colonial times, it was the country to go to. It almost became a British colony.

Colombia is the most multiracial country in America. A mix between the Spanish colonizers, the Africans brought by them; and the Native Americans who were already in that country. Greetings from Mississippi River!

I am from Medellín/ Colombia. I had my DNA ethnicity estimated just a few months ago ( My heritage) I don't really know how accurate that test could be but, what a surprise! I mean the results I got. I am obviously mostly Hispanic looking and going a bit further by getting tested I found that I am 54% mesoamerican ( indigenous from S. America) 10% Ibero either Spain or Portugal, 8% African ( especially Nigeria and Sierra Leona) 4% Italian, 6% Ashkenazi Jew, 6% french , 8% German, and some from Russia and others. Anyway, I got mainly indigenous heritage and I'm really proud of that. I've got tanned skin, blue/green eyes, black hair, freckles on my face . Also I gotta a brother who is whiter, like 6 feet and 2 inches tall, has green eyes and light brown hair. When the test results came out I thought myself, Oh no wonder!! 😜🇨🇴!

So interesting. My last name is Amar. And my father’s family is from Barranquilla, I am believe we’re one or two families (or just the one family with the surname). But it's so unclear where we originated from. The family has been in Colombia from before my 3 or 2 great grandfathers. I was born in 1985.

Jesus, it is the same in Mexico. We mixed and have more tribes than that. Two, there is no such thing as race. That is a construct. All indigenous people are related to Asia. Again, there is no such thing as an ethic, it is a colonial construct.

@@COLOMBIAFRANK I read about one American missionary from a book titled 'Bruchko' decades ago about his works among one of the many ethnics in Colombia. At first he worked in Venezuela but ended up finding himself in Colombia among the tribe. Thanks anyway, look like I need to search for more info.

Indigenous people have no interest in being rich, they are content with basic needs, my mother is full indigenous and I love her side of the family, they are rich in culture, I got to go camping at powwows every weekend with my grandma and those were the best days of my life, morning breakfast and smell of coffee cooking over the fire and visiting with all the people in the camp, I imagine that's what it's like everyday for indigenous villages in Latin America.

What's said here is true, there are other ethnics, like Arabs, East Asians and Gipsies, but they're even less than the indigenous (even all together) Most "Whites" are from the Andean Region (Mainly Medellin and paisas, Bogota and Santander) Most African descent are in the coasts and Indigenous are mostly at the very South and North of the country.

That is true. In Barranquilla you see the middle eastern influence right away. But those movements happened much later, so it was not subject of the discussion. There are also Germans in Santander and I guess much more but that never reached the scale of the other ones.
