Fun fact my brother. In the 50 Cent movie "Get Rich or Die Tryin", The Jamaican clicks and Southside Queens dudes where at war with the Colombians from Jackson Heights. On a real note, when I heard about the Colombians in that area back in the day, I was told that they were foot soldiers of the Latin Kings. Then they had separated and started to beef with the Kings and start their own game ABK.

I was there in the 80s and have visited a few times in the last 30 years. It was NOT as bad as you say, Mooney. If you didn't rip off or snitch on coke dealers, you had nothing to fear. I visited some of the after-hours clubs there and had a good time. I loved the Colombian restaurants there.Things have changed in some places there and in some places, it's not as good as it used to be, but it's still fairly safe. I wouldn't be afraid to live in most of Jackson Heights today. It's better than all but the rich parts of NYC.

I lived on 89th street between Roosevelt ave & 37 avenues from 1985 to 1989... the address was 37-52 89th street to be exact. Colombian drug cartels were the kings of all the crack movement in that area and drug hits "Murders" were common news. I was friends with someone that had an uncle who owned a business on Roosevelt Avenue and was part of the Cali cartel. Although that option to sell drugs was at my fingertips, I didn't go that way. Instead, today I live in Washington DC and work in an upper-middle-class neighborhood, and drugs and crime are not a problem.

I grew up in JH during this time. I was a block away when the journalist from El Diario was killed. The amount of police cars that descended on the restaurant was massive, you thought there was a mass shooting or something. I remember the community organizers of JH was always calling the news outlets if they reported a drug crime just outside the boundaries into Elmhurst or Corona as Jackson Heights and demanded a retraction. There were so many travel agencies along Roosevelt Ave that served as money laundering. Some cartel members would rent an apartment and keep it empty and just use it when they were doing deals. It was nationally known as the cocaine capital of the world that the TV series Miami Vice did a NY episode titled "The Prodigal Son" (great episode) where Crockett and Tubbs were hunting the Colombian cartel and discover that a major deal was going down in Jackson Heights. Crazy times. If you drive further west along Roosevelt Ave into Woodside, there was a huge Irish presence in the area in the 80s. Every block along Roosevelt Avenue had several Irish bars. It was rumored that several bars hosted meetings with IRA members and held fund raisings for them. There are truly so many stories in this city. Great video all together. Thanks!

That's right. Most Colombian neighborhoods in urban areas are in the safest parts of town. Often, the homes are old and in need of repair, but that's because they're owned by absentee landlords who don't do much except for collecting the rent. Examples: parts of Paterson and Hudson County, NJ. The Little Colombia section of Elizabeth, NJ is one of the safest neighborhood in that town. It's even safer than Elmora Hills or Westminster (which are the rich sections of Elizabeth).

He also said what the Colombians also did was give kilos to any one who worked for them. But if you were smart you didn’t take it. Lot of guys got killed for not paying there debts. That dude use to smoke mad crack in Central Park in those days and he use to have ounces. He also said the king pins wife used to give away keys because the king pin didn’t keep track of his shit. The dudes name was Cory and he died in 2015 that told me all this. He told me he met his wife beating the hell out of someone on there first date and told her look if you want to drop me you off I will, but I just made 5000$, want to party with me? Jose Santacruz Londoño “CHEPE” was the boss in NYC. He along with the more well known Rodriguez Orejuela brothers and Pacho Herrera made up the bosses of the Cali Cartel. Pablo and his crew had Miami although they always had a presence in NYC too. Cali was well organized. Very corporate business type structure. Stash houses all over from Queens to Long Island. They’d actually have families driving minivans move in to make everything seem cool & legit. Those guys literally raked in Billions every year and they were all Billionaires. They literally had employees working for them all over but Jackson Heights was definitely the center of operations. Crazy times man. And yeah “ CHICAS CHICAS CHICAS”. Freaking disgusting brothels. Anybody still going to those nasty 🤮 spots definitely got issues lol 😂

I heard that Jackson Heights, back in the '40's-'50's was really beautiful. Very well maintained garden apartments. There's still nice pre-war one's today. Another interesting place in Queens up that way is where my grandmother lived - East Elmhurst. Ditmars Boulevard in particular has some nice Tudor mansions and some famous people lived there. The famous singer Ella Fitzgerald for one.

Although I was no longer living in the NYC Metro Area after 1973, I'd heard about the infamy of the Columbian influence in Jackson Heights during the 70s and into about the early 80s... It was then determined that importing contraband into Miami, New Orleans, and various other ports and then distributing it North through land-based routes and cities such as Atlanta, Memphis, and Philadelphia often proved to be more lucrative and less of a risk than just sailing it up the coastal waters... The same bigwigs still mostly controlled it... They just moved their residences and main offices Southward...

@@DarkBrother363 Yes, they did. I remember a Colombian restaurant that had a sign that said, "No consuma basuco aquí." That's Spanish for "Don't use basuco here." But basuco wasn't much of a problem. Basuco is cocaine paste, or unrefined coke. Peruvians in NJ call it "pasta." Basuco was cheap stuff. Most users were kids or low-class people. Basuco has a short shelf-life. It must be used or refined into cocaine shortly after it's made, which is why outside of a few urban areas of the country, it never caught on. It's contaminated with kerosene and if someone smokes it in the lobby of an apartment house, you'll know it.
