Did anyone actually think that Colombia could stand up to American economic pressure? I like Colombia and visit once a year to see friends but they are in no position to get in a trade war with anyone let alone America. They are not a rich country and many of the products that they sell to America can be bought from other nations in the region. It was a dumb move by Petro and his advisors probably told him so. Many Colombians don't even like him and have tried to remove him from power. Most of the Colombians that I know in California voted for Trump and would love to see Trump get rid of Petro if he could. Petro supports illegal immigration and allowed over 1 million illegal Venezuelans into Colombia which has angered many locals because they commit a lot of crimes. Last time I visited there were Venezuelan gangs everywhere getting in fights with local Colombian gangs. It's a huge mess that he has created.
