The flashbacks to Mustang during the Ishvalan war are really chilling and sad. He just stands there with his hand in his pocket destroying entire neighbourhoods. You can tell from just his posture and body language that he doesn’t want to be there. It’s just a job to him.

It was explained in the manga but not the anime for some reason

​​@@sys3248 so canonically, Roy's alchemy isnt really flame alchemy, it is more of oxygen manipulation alchemy, the flame is added when he snaps with his special ignition gloves (the friction creates the spark) and it can also be ignited with a lighter as seen when he went against Lust. He can manipulate the oxygen in the air as seen when he engulfed the room in flames and surrounded his allies without touching them. Thus he can manipulate the air to contain more oxygen and make the oxygen move when and where he needs it to be to feed the flames. He would not need to worry about oxygen depletion

the snapping was due to the friction causing a spark with his special fabric gloves. All he needs is a spark and the fire alchemy symbol (and the teachings of the fire alchemy which only he knows after his master's death and the scarring of riza's back) A clap (before he saw the gate of truth) wouldn't cause the rubbing friction he would need to create a spark. Hence no ultimate attack with a big clap. just needs his snaps.

So how about I didn't watch FMA(either) until I was 25. I knew it existed but just never saw enough to have interest. That all changed when one of my very good friends said that he rewatched a scene of it and only saw me as the character. He tells me this and shows me Roy incinerate Lust. XD So needless to say, I was Flattered as Hell!!! Then I proceeded to watch FMA and then Brotherhood, both binging from their beginnings...ah. Great memories!!!
