Mustang envisioned a better world for himself, his people and his brigade, so he lost his vision. Ed wanted his mother back to lean on, so he lost his leg and can't stand on his own. He transmuted again, reaching out for his brother, and lost his arm. AL wanted to feel his mother's warmth so he lost his body and can't feel anything anymore. Izumi wanted her child so she lost the ability to ever bare children again.

Truth is known for taking something "relevant" from the characters. For example, for Izumi, since she tried to take back her baby the Truth took her inner organs so she can't have any more kids. And for Mustang, since he's aiming to become the Furher aka wants to lead the country to the better future, taking his sight means he won't get to see it. It's the whole thing of "looking forward to it" and such

It’s know to humans that human transmutation is strictly forbidden and extremely dangerous so if they died after they paid the toll then that’s on them and not on Truth. As for Izumi. I think her dying years later due to organ failure(missing organs) is also within the toll as Ed could have died due his injuries. They paid the toll, what happens to them after is not within Truths power.

Gotta keep in mind with Bradley as some people have already pointed out in other videos is that he doesn't have regenerative abilities like the others do. When he was "made" a bunch of souls basically fought to the death inside of him and the soul he has now is the one that is left. My favourite joke was that the character Danny did his bit on forgetting side characters’ names on is actually named Danny 😂 but yeah, this is the beginning of the end. The sacrifice actually succeeding, with Father opening the doors of earth to reach god, was such an incredible and horrifying moment to watch. I don’t know if you remember, but all the way back in Gluttony’s stomach, Ed pretty much explained Father’s plan entirely from looking at the transmutation circle. “I will strike god (represented by an eclipse) down to earth and become a perfect being”. And here we see cosmic horror Father opening the door of the Eclipse (aka the way to god) and pulling him down to earth.

Hiromu Arakawa will always be known as the mangaka who made FMA, but she also made the manga adaptation of Arslan Senki, which I consider to be one of the best geopolitical historical fantasies I've read. It also has a rather well-made anime that I'd recommend.

Danny not putting together that Scar's (brother's) arms are literally two separate parts of transmutation circles after all this time is wild. Transmutation circles have two sections; one to break down a material, and another to put it back together in a new form. Scar's left arm is the breaking down of a material into its molecular parts. His right is the reassembling. The Elric brothers "clap" when they perform alchemy because their literal arms form the "circle" with their bodies and will affected by "The Gate"/"Truth" forming the array within.

16:08 you pointing out how "wrath" in this show is characterized less by obvious anger and more by hatred is a really good observation!! it also ties into why the whole "noo don't kill him" end to the mustang vs envy fight is actually a perfect conclusion, to both the fight and sort of to mustang's arc. mustang's entire goal is to become the leader of amestris, and to become a good leader who can right the wrongs of the country at that. in order to be able to do this, he has to be better than bradley. to be better than bradley, mustang has to prove that he won't succumb to wrath (aka hatred). that's why he couldn't be allowed to kill envy: his only motivation at that moment was hate. it's also why hawkeye said that she'd kill envy instead lmao: that moment wasn't anti-revenge or even condemning killing, it was simply about mustang overcoming wrath, and proving he'd make a good leader in the future. anyways great video, legendary timing on that "warn mustang" bit.

So I was referring to my actual studies into alchemy. Which later became a separation of itself. Inorder to become chemistry. Among other things because alchemy is both esoteric, religions, and scientific, for the time period. And Edward's father hohenheim. Was a real life German alchemist who was the grandfather of all modern-day medical practices I have his 5-point spiritual start tattooed on my hand.

Yes Danny, if Alphonse has just stayed longer at the gate (e.g. reuniting with his body and then waiting for someone to figure out a way to return him home) he would have saved Amestris by his own. Also, maybe (we don't know for sure the range of the teleportation trick) he would have saved the country by just escaping to the countryside with Yoki's car instead of going to Central... He ate the bait so easily when Pride clearly tricked/pushed him into going to Central...

@@stephanyfiuza9180 I just said that it looks like that the good guys had a couple of occasions to ruin Father's plan by just not being there to be sacrificed (although, to be fair, they had no way to know whether the bad guys had some "backup sacrifices" or not!). The anime implies that Alphonse could have rejoined his body at that time, although it doesn't explain what would have happened next (would that have affected Edward in some way? Or the gold-tooth doctor, who sent them through the gate? We don't know.). Anyway, probably the version of the story we actually got is the coolest one.

So, fun thing is cosmic horror is actually pretty popular in Japan, however it is hard to get quite right in anime so ones that attempt it tend to be pretty bad. However one Sentai show got it right in my opinion, which went on to inspire Madoka Magica, called Karen Rider Ryuki. I highly recommend it. Visual novels tend to have a better track record with the cosmic horror side of things. One that’s easy to get into is Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly and it’s sequel. It lighter than cosmic horror in general but that isn’t saying much.
