The whole film series is just an analogy to colonialism to the point the humans are just bad comic book villains. Hell, they ditched the magic space rock in the sequel to go after penis enlargement goo from whales. At least Quatrich is terribly well-written and the actor does a fantastic portrayal in both movies.

@@_MaZTeR_ thats the problem, the movie was too much of a childish analogue to colonialism without any of the subtlety in complexity. in reality most of the natives was too busy killing each other by the time colonizer arrived yet in the movie, the natives were all potrayed as poor angels who never do anything wrong.

@@sunshineskystar very true- people have always loved to look at history with both the benefit of hindsight as well as the luxury of having not lived it. Truth is always far more complex than what reading a single history book will make it out to be. That isn’t mean to justify the wrong peoples have done to each other- but like you said, trying to make things seem like they are just ‘good vs bad’ is immature storytelling when your tackling something this intentionally analogous to real life. That’s why the meme of the humans being right in avatar is brilliant- because though it’s often meant ironically, there is a recognition by the audience that what we’re being shown is biased and watered down to appease to our basic emotional responses.

Honestly this comment really express my distain for modern movies and the writing contained in them. Movies from The past went above and beyond when telling stories both in their visuals and in their writing. Movies from the silent film era seem somehow more epic and grandiose then that of modern movies today even with significantly less budgets, production and backers behind them. Take anything from buster Keaton and you’ll be amazed at how much more entertaining he is alone than an entire marvel cast. Or take movies from mid century. Films like it’s a wonderful life, with its timeless message of one’s man worth to the people around him and role he does in shaping others live, or the practical feats of Ben Hur and how magnificent each sentence is said, how much wait the actors put into it and their expressions. We are truly living in an age of decay that is universal in every aspect of our lives and nothing express this more than in our media and this comment hits it dead on.

Remember, the movie establishes that there are 20 billion people on earth, but about 2 million na'vi at the most. The movie also establishes that without unobtainium earth will suffer large scale economic collapse. That is not a harmless result. If that collapse kills only 1% of humans (which is a low number for a global economic collapse) then more humans will die by an order of magnitude than if they killed every Na'Vi and just took what they needed. My point: while trying to trade and interact peacefully is honorable and right, if the Na'Vi in the end refuse to allow peaceful acquisition, the humans are completely within their rights to do whatever violence is necessary to protect themselves.

For all we know, the Na'vi may have existed as long as humans. we humans built grand cities and explore the stars, while the Na'vi still squat in the mud. we have cures for diseases, while the Na'vi just sit in circles and chant the illness away. we have ways to treat injuries like broken bones and other medical problems, while most Na'vi die young. we built machines to use to travel great distances in days or a few hours, while the Na'vi rely on beasts that easily turn of you if you piss them off. and lastly, we can predict a disaster and take steps to either prevent it, avoid it, or can save as many people as possible before it happens, while the Na'vi won't know what's happening until it's too late. like if a meteor is to impact the planet, or a volcano is active. GenerationTech is right. the Na'vi are ultimately doomed. they don't reach for the stars and dream of a brighter future. they don't set out to explore and understand their world better. their inability to evolve and progress leaves them unprepared for difficult futures. like if their planet is invaded by the Orks or the Tyranid hoards. or worse yet, the hideous forces of Chaos. the Emperor will guide us while the Na'vi are left behind in darkness.

The Earth in Avatar is pretty similar to the Earth from the movie “Elysium.” The rich elites are top of everyone in space and the poor stays on Earth. The thing about the Avatar universe I don’t understand is why humans don’t build habituals systems on Moon, Mars, Titan, etc. anywhere in there solar system becoming an interplanetary species. Why go through so much money and effort to mine natural occurring Superconductors from another Solar System? I mean get that it’s a material that advances their technological development, but can they make that their own? They spent billions on making a clone body of aliens, go interstellar travel, and now they’re after alien brain juice for immortality. I see this is getting to the point where humans that run these corporations are similar to the elites from movie “Elysium.” They’re doing so much to milk anything for profits and expanding their empire, claiming territories and valuable resources, and selling it to the higher bidders. You see this today in our civilization. Big investment firms buying so many land and single home housing, selling them for rent, and Bill Gates is the biggest farmland owner in the US, and still buying more land. These elites are trying to keep the working middle class citizens poor, and putting them in that place forever while they’re contributing their wealth by buying food, gas, goods, that those Elites owns those company’s shares. If humans were facing a big population doom, shouldn’t they expand their civilization beyond earth like constructing space wheels like Elysium or cylinder habitats like Interstellar, or Terraforming Mars and genetically engineered new Human species that can sustain the harsh conditions there, you know since they can already genetically engineer an alien body. Now I know Avatar 2, their mission is to turn Pandora new home, and so history repeats itself. Humans destroy everything and move somewhere else, like locusts.

The Cyberpunk life cycle. Burn bright but go out with a bang. In all honesty much of the deeper lore puts humankind in more of a sympathetic light for me seeing as how the RDA is mostly trying their actual best to keep humanity alive; there would be a worldwide food crisis if they didn't turn much of Earth's oceans into algae farms that feed billions. Searching for resources to pull ourselves out of the hole Earth has become is something understandable. Even if humanity never reaches the heights described in the video, we still will have accomplished things the Na'vi never will.

One might argue that human ingenuity is the result of Adam’s sinful ambition, or as some call it ‘the Faustian spirit’, which implies a loss upon the collective soul and its ability to make contact with God, an omnipotent God with infinite love and wisdom who seeks to preserve and guide his creation to the proper path. But many question the credibility of God, his strength, his motives. Who’s to say what the nature of God is beyond God’s own word of himself? If the words of his detractors dilute you, look to their fruits, for they rot and corrupt the human soul even further beyond the presence of heaven, and cannot be trusted. Perhaps the Na’avi really were the enlightened ones, and humanity was too blinded by its industrialized ambitions to see it.

I mean if the biological imperative that drives all life is survival then survival is the same as winning. In the game that is existence humanity surpasses the Na’vi because the further you can spread the better the odds are your species survives. Our fate is to spread across the heavens far and wide, to tread in the light of foreign stars, to look out at the unknown and blaze a trail, to carry the torch of humanity to all we see and learn from it.
