Okay Colonel. I advised twice a few TpF2 seasons ago on a mod to help with the lumpy/flat elevation issues. It's the smallest, simplest mod in the whole game, and once it's installed, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. It's called "Height Meter" by mod-maker General Tso. All it does is display the exact elevation at the cursor point at the bottom of the screen. So you can run your cursor over the track or the intended ground for your track and see if it's REALLY flat or not, and where the lumps are. You can also note the exact elevation of an area you are flattening, and if planning bridges or tunnels, locate the exact point the track will come out at the same height. Very simple, but the most useful mod I have ever found. The mod is in the Steam Workshop, but hard to find because he never added the correct tags to allow it to appear in multiple sub-menus. I can't remember the category but I think you can search for the name. You won't regret it, even if you don't use it as much as I have done...

You're thinking that third time is a charm?
@Pystro
@Pystro Күн бұрын
The only problem being that "measuring twice, cut once" is less entertaining than "measure 5 times by building and demolishing 5 times, and then noticing that your measurements were imprecise and you have to build it a 6th time". Then again, having the mod and using it only in the situations that work for a youtuber is not precluded by the above mentioned in-applicability to other situations.

The multiple bridgebulldozing (take a shot🍶), drinking game… has not gone well. 😵‍💫 🥴 🤤 🤕 Victory?

For your ugly tunnel entrance, you could have used the raise terrian tool to bring the hillside higher, thus moving the tunnel entrance closer to the river. Then relay the high speed track over the tunnel. With a little space between the tunnel entrance and the high speed track most of difficulties disappear.

some tator chips... neat. you can spend the whole episode moving the dirt around and building tracks over it... heck, you could have even hollowed out the water and dug out a harbor or canal up through the mountain... it's a game, overcome the anxiety and just enjoy your game... Happy Friday! Side note - this is my Jam, when I was a youngin' in the 70's(before these computers) I'd spend hours in my yard just digging away at making roads, and such.... that's why I enjoy captain of industry... they let me dig all I want... don't even need to play the game, I can make holes and roads and such all day long... =D Thanks!

41:58 My idea (which you said I was allowed to have and leave in the comments) was similar, in that I wouldn't have a junction connecting the tracks on the mainland end of the bridge at all. Except that I would have single-tracked the two routes over the bridge (2 single-track lines on the bridge instead of 2 double-track lines on the bridge). And then I'd have put in a diamond at the island end of the bridge. But I admit that a quad-track bridge is significantly more imposing.

Looking forward to seeing this series' freight hub(s). They are often the highlight of a series for me, watching it all come together 😊 Assuming there will be freight hubs of course, you may have different plans ahead which is exciting! Must be tricky finding a balance between making progress, but also wanting to do thing right, or at least to a level you find acceptable 🙂 Don't worry Colonel, a few false starts here and there are all part of the journey, and that was a mighty fine junction indeed 😁 Looking forward to the next episode ❤

The process of placing in a piece of track and then aligning every other bit of track around it. Only problem is, is getting that one single piece of track at the start in the right position for all the other pieces of track to align up with not only it, but every other piece of track attached. If even one piece isn't aligned correctly, the whole lot, or at least the majority of, needs redoing again, and again, and again. Until you either get it pixel perfect, or more likely, you give up/make do and try to ignore the bits that aren't quite as consistent as you'd like them to be, obscuring them with trees or other foliage in an attempt to pretend they don't exist. Then moving on somewhere else and repeating the process.

I don't know the game, but wouldn't you have less inconsistencies in the curvature (and slope!) if you cut the stubs coming out of the (perfectly flat) junctions back as far as you can? One example being at 58:08, where you could have definitely shortened the uphill stub (closer to the camera); and if the game would let you, cutting the downhill end of the curve (further from the camera) would have done even more for you (on account of also hiding the fact that you're going from a 76 curve straight into a 120+ curve, which then transitions in to an 80-ish curve). The easiest way to cut it back would probably be to cut one of the tracks in the offending leg back, re-build it parallel to the single track that's still there, but as short as you need to make the ballast look decent (or as short as the game lets you, depending on how picky it is); And then repeat for the other track.

See, what I would do different is spend three hours faffing about trying to get all the various bobs just right, try several mods, throw away the mods, faff around some more, and eventually get something that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike what I wanted in the first place. Probably just in time to bulldoze it all to drive a bypass through it.

Is it possible to do double-decker rail/road bridges? They are hideous IRL but in this case may have been useful.
@Pystro
@Pystro Күн бұрын
No. Get out of here. Find the nearest corner, stand in it and think about what you just said. And only come back if you bring cake for everyone as an apology. :P M guess is that the game will by default just not allow it, because you have too long a span without pillar placement. You could probably get around that with bridge mods that don't need pillars. That is, _if_ you can get the top layer close enough to the layer below that they look physically connected. Although now you piqued my (purely academic) curiosity as to whether it's actually possible.

@Julius_Hardware
@Julius_Hardware Күн бұрын
I'd watch the Colonel do a whole video about crisps, corn snacks and similarly related savouries. Salt and Vinegar. Is there any other kind?
@Pystro
@Pystro Күн бұрын
@@Julius_Hardware I disagree. If we're talking about the only correct answer its the following: *Seasoning:* Barbecue and salted/original in a 1:1 ratio. Pure barbecue is too spicy, and only salted is too bland. *Substrate:* The type that cuts it's potato content with rice flour (think Pringles). They don't suffer from the "100% potato" product's flaw of getting your hands oily (and yes, saying "hands" instead of "fingers" is on purpose, because the bag's inside can be so oily that it's near impossible to grab them without getting the back of your hand marinated in the process too.) Corn-based solutions can work too, but they are too hit and miss. Other kinds do have their merits, and in 99% of cases I would deem them edible and partake in them. But the above is the only type that I can unconditionally recommend.
