The reason that runes and talismans have different icons is because runes were visually updated in 2005. You can see the original models for runes in the historical galleries at the bottom of the wiki pages.

Interesting! However it still seems like only really the lighting on the runes was changed. Even in 2004 the nature rune had the gap, the mind rune isn't the weird triangle version from the talisman, etc.

The Soul Wars bug is due to the way the blue circles are done. Actually, the blue circle is just an item placed in the JAW slot, an invisible slot mostly used for that kind of stuff. It is also used in Barbarian Assault. And fun fact, because there are a lot of beard variation, they have to make 4 barbarian assault items multiplied by the amount of jaw slots to handle all kind of variations... Because you wouldn't see your beard while having the circle !

Fun Fact! In real life runic languages (Elder and Younger Futhark) an upside down/ backwards rune is stated as being written in Merkstave. This means the rune has an alternative or opposing meaning. Perhaps it's the same in RuneScape, where a consumable rune is written correctly, so as to send out its true meaning / energies; and a talisman is reversed, as to contain or absorb those same energies or intentions!

Well technically getting level 2 herblore wasn't impossible for a time I have level 2 herblore on my 75 attack 1 def account from when botanical pies were added into the game you can get the 3 boost and make attack pots without doing the quest

the cosmic rune actually used to be moon on the left, star on the right, but it got changed because of its similarity to the symbol for Islam, they probably just forgot to change the talisman as well when they made that change. I wouldn't be surprised if they changed that now that people brought it up.

If you want the blue circle just get 6h logged during a match of soul wars and you'll have the blue circle on you. You only get rid of it on the weekly server reset usually.

There was also an RS3 ad that simply stated "fight stuff". As you point out, Jagex claim that these weirdly simplistic ads are pretty effective, though I'm still not sure what demographic resonate with such vague statements.

i kinda get it tbh? you see so many game ads, especially for MMOs, that all say "an amazing adventure in a vast world" with a picture of a huge demon or whatever. the sheer contrast of an ad just saying "fight stuff" is borderline absurd and has a certain charm to it. and it naturally prompts the question, "what stuff?"

About the skillcape benefits, it most definitely works this way because the game only asks if the player has a certain item ID equipped, which in turn means that they specifically made an exception for the cooking guild where the game also asks ”is the current world a free-to-play world?”. They probably should have made a function to include this check while also looking if the player has a skillcape at the same time, then instead of checking directly if the player has the skillcape, just run the function that checks for both.

My theory is that when you join an instanced area or any alternative where special restrictions / benefits are implied, you're given an item that you can't see or interact with that has said restrictions / benefits. It's then usually removed upon leaving, hence the chaos elemental removing it

latina here. in fact "zambo" was used in colonial Latin America to refer to certain niche of people in a "Casta". castas were extremely racist and clasist classifications of the population made by the elite, and depending on their "level" for example a Spanish born person was higher tier, and a slave was the lower, they were able to get or not, certain privileges. it's a long gone term, so idk why Jagex decided to name the npc like that and then censor it lol

the different texture on the rune vs talisman makes it more realistic imo.. pretending or immersing yourself in the world of Runescape, where these symbols were literally painted by hand by the user's character or someone else, so obviously they won't be able to draw the symbols/art precisely every single time. So there being variation due to artist interpretation or just one day the same creator drew it one way but drew it another way another time, makes 100% logic in a real world scenario.. I bet I can even ask you to free hand paint two skulls (no special tools or stencils, etc), just a blank sheet of paper and paint.. and even if you painted them back to back and right next to eachother, so you can literally even reference the first skull you painted, I have no doubt that they will look nothing like eachother.

For the soul wars circle, I believe mod ash tweeted that they noticed the bug soon after soul wars launched, but chose to leave it be as it was harmless, trivial, and purely visual. Didn't know it stopped you in those two places though

Jagex probably has an "advanced" filtering system that filters out common permutations for bad words (eg, using 2 "9"s to replace the "G"s in the n-word or f-slur) Zambo is itself might not be derogatory, but as you said, switch the "Z" for an "S" and that changes. Hence the censor.

You can remove the blue circle from your player with a third party client. It works whether you're pay-to-play/free-to-play, group-, ultimate-, hardcore ironman or a regular account, without having to visit the chaos elemental, dying or venturing into the wilderness. I used to have it on one of my accounts but removed it. You run a command which tells the client to unequip the hidden item slot and that's it.

Considering how many Yanks join the Armed Forces straight after High School, there's been plenty of ex-RS players deployed overseas (note that "deployment" doesn't imply a warzone, you can be "deployed" to just about anywhere the US has a military presence, including allied countries such as Japan and SK)

zambo might be censored due to the word sambo, worked with a guy from south africa who always said at roadworks for example you'd see one white guy doing the work and 6 sambos lying in the sun - sambo refering to the black workers. the implication obviously being that black workers were lazy. never heard of it once in my life apart from this guy so probably an obscure/local racial slur

Left definitely isn't impossible. As others have pointed out, Botanical Pies originally bypassed the Druidic Ritual requirement to make potions and clean herbs. The Wiki even mentions this in the trivia section for the item. I used this on a level 3 skiller, although never stopped at level 2.

As to the 2FA code being required again, I have found that changing IP addresses triggers it every time. Had my ISP drop out on me, so switched to my phone hotspot, and had to enter the 2FA again. ISP came back online, and the code was required again. Also was required when ISP changed my IP for a while.
