AS a reenactor myself (Roman 1st Cen. Crusader, WW1 & WW2) it's always fun going to these sites and chatting up fellow reenactors . WE love getting good Q's and explaining stuff letting people touch and try on items. for example my WW2 unit we let people kit up in a parachute with gear so they can get the feel of how heavy it was for paratroopers. For Roman we did the kid's Cohort with plastic swords / helmets and shields to teach formations while parents threw foam rocks at them. we have Old Sturbridge Village here in MA and they host a very large "Redcoats and Rebels " battle reenacment along with a very fun "Christmas by Candlelight" glad to see you enjoying it. FYI we always love to be asked "Are you hot in that?" lol

Back when we lived in Manassas, Virginia around 1985 Disney wanted to buy property near the Manassas Battlefield and develop it into an all-American attraction. There was so much pushback from conservationists afraid that the battlefield would be ruined so they gave up on the idea.

Lol at taking your British Boyfriend to Colonial Williamsburg! I know it was an English colony, but it sure didn't stay that way! 🤪

Williamsburg should consider itself lucky that Sam didn't re-claim the colony as revenge in the name of the ghost of King George III..I mean he did say he would send a fully-armed battalion to remind us of his love 😂 If you're ever in PA or NJ, I highly recommend visiting Valley Forge and Jockey Hollow National Historical Parks respectively. Jockey Hollow is outside Morristown and it was used by the Continental Army was their main winter encampment. Washington's headquarters during the encampment is still preserved in the middle of town. And Valley Forge is another winter encampment used (it's where they stayed after failing to retake Philly) that has a HUGE memorial arch that reminds me of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. I know all of this because I've been to those places for scouting to do their ten mile trails. And trust me, there's *SO* much history in the Northeast

For our 25th anniversary, my husband and I went to Colonial Williamsburg during the Christmas season. We stayed in the Brickhouse Tavern, one of the restored buildings on Duke of Gloucester Street. At Christmastime in the late 1700's they did not put up trees, but they did put naturally decorated wreath's on their doors. All the buildings had beautiful wreath's on the doors including the Brickhouse Tavern where we were staying. Every time we opened the door to go out, someone was taking a picture of the door. We were in a lot of people's vacation photos! Thank you for the trip down memory lane or Duke of Gloucester Street I should say!

Thanks for sharing this..especially Kings Arms Tavern. My grandmother was a re-enactor in Colonial Williamsburg in the 90s. She played Jane Vobe, the tavern keeper for Kings Arms. I am so glad you got to visit Colonial Williamsburg. It is quite an interesting and beautiful place. When we lived in Virigina and Maryland in the 1980's we went there a few times with my husband on business trips. One year instead of driving all the way down to be with relatives in Florida my husband, son and I spent Christmas in a Holiday Inn near Williamsburg. Our son was about 10 and they had old fashioned kids' games on the common in Colonial Williamsburg. He also enjoyed the capitol tour and even back then knew history so well he could answer their questions. I have pictures of the trip. At Christmas every door on the main street has fantastic wreaths made of fruit and nuts and other natural items. We ate at a restaurant, don't remember if it was that same one you went to, but had the best beef stew in large mugs. It was bitterly cold then and that was a hearty meal to warm us up. Do they still have a musket firing demonstration there? The last time I went there was in 2003 when my son was doing research for his master's thesis about the Florida Brigade that fought in the Civil War. One battle was nearby Williamsburg and their leader, Colonel George T. Ward, was killed and buried in the graveyard in the courtyard of the Episcopal Chruch there in Colonial Williamsburg. Most people forget that Williamsburg and Yorktown had battles in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.
