Thanks for the honesty. What I know now vs 4 years ago. Hemorrhoid issue do not waste time or money on a gastroglist. Right off the bat-you need a colonoscopy. I said you can see the Hemorrhoids-but his response was need to make sure not other bleeding going on up there. I said, I don't qualify for colonscopy because I am to young for insurance to cover. Finally went to a colorectal doc and he said I will do whatever you want. Hoping the banding procedure works .

Less than a week ago, I just had colonoscopy with flare / recent bleeding. To put it mildly, I was *very* apprehensive about the whole thing. On my own, I started soft foods and lots of liquids before they told me to start the prep. During the prep, BMs were soft and I quickly went into passing liquids. I pretty much figured out I didn't have a fissure because the liquid and contractions were not roughing anything up, and there was virtually zero bleeding. I was certain that the instruments would rough things up, and prepared at home in advance for a recovery. That didn't happen...I was fine though the whole thing. So, it's possible that you can get through it OK...was for me!

I have had 3 colonoscopies. First in 2014 for IBS, second in 2021 for rectal pain, and third in 2022 for rectal pain (diagnosed as Proctalgia) at age 35. The last one was quite uncomfortable for a week with bloating, some pain, and digestive issues. Doctors here in Kolkata, India do colonoscopies on the same day they prescribe them. They don't even trust their own 1-year-old test report. Ultimately, it is our choice but desperation causes people to undergo these procedures despite the known risks. I wish we had more doctors like you, Dr. Chung.

@@dedisorong I have learned to relax my muscle by scrolling through the various streams on my mobile. I would not suggest it to anyone as it goes against the recommended technique of quick in and quick out. But, I am unable to get it to work after years of living a sedentary lifestyle. What I can recommend is sitting straight and using the left hand to slightly grip the left knee and bend backward while trying to pass the stool. This has helped me tremendously. I remember a video Dr. Chung posted where he talked about the angle of the muscle. Some people find it easy to pass stool by bending forward while others feel better bending backward. I don't take any meds anymore. The problem has not completely gone away (like the 10 other chronic problems I have slowly developed after contracting the Delta variant). However, the intensity has lowered a lot and I can go through my day without constantly thinking about it and trying to manage the pain.

I really appreciate this info Dr. Chung. Especially knowing the actual statistics/chances or rectal, anal, colon cancers are so low. It seems everything I read leads us all to believe that cancers are so common place! I have a hard time believing that. It does get me irritated that now colonoscopies are being recommended to folks starting at age 45 (I think) and every 5 years after the age of 60 if your risk of cancer increases…….well who decides that?! The whole medical philosophies and scare tactics just blow my mind. 🤯 and of course this whole thing is in every specialty…. Some of my best physician visits have been with older and experienced doctors, who’ve been around the block so to speak. The young ones seem to be supportive of all the bad thinking, perhaps to save their butt? (rant completed for now 😂) thanks again, you’re not old but you are one of the good ones!

Dr Chung: Have you ever heard anyone say that you should do colonoscopy to check for IBDs before treating hemorrhoids? Several years ago, I had a surgeon tell me he wouldn't look at hemorrhoids first...he had to do colonoscopy because if he found some kind of IBD, treatment would be different. I've never heard you mention possibility of inflammatory bowel disease, so I wonder how you weigh in on this.

Would you recommend discussing a non-invasive test like Cologuard instead? If the doctor refuses to consider it, maybe the patient should look for another doctor.
@yourfriendlyproctologist
@yourfriendlyproctologist Жыл бұрын
it's an option, but cologuard is a colon cancer/polyp screening tool. When a patient comes in with bleeding the testing is now for diagnostic purposes and the colonoscopy would be the best test in that scenario.
@kathcares
@kathcares Жыл бұрын
@@yourfriendlyproctologist I remember you talking about insurance and what they'll pay for. I just thought that it would help decide the degree of urgency in performing the more invasive procedure, given the information you laid out in the video. If you're going to let a patient spend time healing an anal fissure before a colonoscopy, it would be assuring for the patient to get a more immediate result in a noninvasive manner. Given the odds of there being something other than the anal fissure causing the bleeding, I would think that would be a good option. I realize that the tests are fairly new, but I understand that they look for genetic material, not just blood cells. It always takes a period of time for new technology to be accepted, though.

Hello Dr. Chung. I wish I would have found you some time ago as I've been struggling for the last 5.5 years. I've had 15 rubberband litigations in 2018 along with a hemorrhoidectomy (3 internal). Another hemorrhoidectomy in 2019 (3 internal) and another hemorrhoidectomy just 4 weeks ago. (2 external 1 skin tag) All completed by the same General Surgeon. I now have another external hemorrhoid because of what I think is the stool is missing the backdoor and pushing up against my pelvic bone and causing bleeding from the pressure. It could take as much as 10 mins of trying to expel the 1st release. My stool is a 3/4 on the Bristol Chart so I am confident that is not entirely the issue. I have been on Restoralax for the last 3 days to see if there will be any change to my daily bowel moment. Is it possible that stool can pass the door and push up against my pelvic bone? Very painful experience. Do you offer any phone consultations/information as I am at a loss and losing steam? Thank you

I can not sit straight up and still cannot drive or lie flat. I am being followed by my dermatologist who has me on Neurontin for the past 4 months. It appears to be getting somewhat better My question as embarrassing as it is to ask, as a surgeon ever heard of someone having shingles and the neuralgia in this area lasting this long or should I seek out a rectal doctor.
