I’ve been wanting a controlled colony for a while sadly I don’t have the space for it so I have to stick with cages and a play pen for now

Thank you, Do the rabbits fight? Does there seem to be a maximum area per rabbit?
@siloprepper1742 жыл бұрын
Hi, none of the rabbits fight, the does are all bonded and the bucks are bonded. I made a second video showing the bonded bucks. I have read that each rabbit needs a minimum of 12 square feet. Each side of the colony is 80 square feet. And I find that my rabbits love to be right beside each other at all times. I rarely see them apart unless it’s really hot outside and they are burrowed to cooled off.

Hi! I love your set up! I wanted to ask how it’s still working for you?
@siloprepper1742 жыл бұрын
Hi, it’s still working great! We have removed water bottles and now use water bowls as we had one develop so Gi problems, but she’s doing great now!

We made something similar for our pet rabbits. :) We dug 2,5 dm underground all the way around the edge to get the net underground. :) No nasty animals got in, except some bees. :(

soo cute, happy they won´t be food!

The females walk to the fence and may sniff but then turn around and walk away, they don’t linger at the fence I don’t think they care for the boys too much lol. As for the poo, I take it up and store it in a garbage can with a lid, and we scoop out how much we need. The garbage can will soon be fully dumped into our garden and tilled, we’re hoping for a food forest this year!

This is very similar to my setup I just don’t have a roof for them and I have small houses inside their pen
@siloprepper1742 жыл бұрын
We decided to put a roof on it because I wanted to keep them dry and I was worried that hawks would get them
@sailorman86682 жыл бұрын
@@siloprepper174 We have hawks flying around our property from time to time and our 4 pairs of bonded bunnies have never had any issues when they're free-ranging in their outdoor enclosure. You fears are unfounded.

think fodder for their feed, but if it is not eatten while it grows, be sure to let it dry for a couple of days before feeding to the animals...

How do you prevent the rabbits from digging out or prey animals getting in?
@siloprepper1742 жыл бұрын
Before it was built I dug 6-8 inches deep and buried chicken wire, then covered it back with the dirt and start building the structure, the perimeter also has concrete as well

@@siloprepper174 thankyou for your reply. Im going to build a walk in rabbit run for our rabbits and just wanted all the info before going ahead.

are your bucks fighting ? I never seen anyone house bucks together without them fighting.
@siloprepper1742 жыл бұрын
Absolute not they are bonded! They love each other! ❤️ I’ll post a video this weekend showing how they eat and love on each other!
@johnthomas58062 жыл бұрын
Back breeding rabbits to parents is a fact of nature, first couple of offspring (in nature) crosses usually happen before death of the animal (think killing for the meat..
@siloprepper1742 жыл бұрын
They have never been bred, and we don’t breed, they aren’t meat rabbits. We only collect their poop for fertilizer. I MAY breed later on, but the related ones won’t be bred
@sailorman86682 жыл бұрын
What a terrible environment you've confined these rabbits to. All that grass and natural sunshine they could be experiencing just the other side of the enclosure fence and you can't even come up with a simple arrangement of modular fencing where they can 'free-range' in and out of their current enclosure?
@siloprepper1742 жыл бұрын
They are out of the enclosure quite regular, under supervision. Why on earth would I allow my rabbits that I’ve spent money on and cared for to freely go outside the secure pen and be picked off by hawks and cats. If you think this is confining you should see how breeders actually house rabbits. Look it up. I’m assuming you don’t own rabbits, so you’re just talking out of your ass.
@jjwilliamn44072 жыл бұрын
You clearly don’t know much about rabbits this is more than enough space for these rabbits and rabbits are a semi nocturnal animal they do not like the bright sunshine as it makes them vulnerable to predators do your research before commenting dumb stuff
@sailorman86682 жыл бұрын
@@jjwilliamn4407 Cool story bro - needs more dragons. Funny you should mention anything about 'bright sunshine', as the 8 rabbits (4 pairs of bonded male/female) I have in freerange enclosures absolutely love being in direct sunlight.
@jjwilliamn44072 жыл бұрын
Your clearly an ignorant pet owner if you really cared you would have done some research about your rabbits and not just done what you think is right
@alejandrotrejo36552 жыл бұрын
@@sailorman8668 everybody has there own method of keeping rabbits happy if they have food shelter water and space then there’s no reason to call out the owner just cause you have your own opinion of housing rabbits doesn’t make your word rabbit law.
