Hey have you tried looking for "chrome" finish vinyls? Maybe that will give you the shiny metal colors that you want?

Always always always clean with alcohol and then let it sit for a couple minutes while the alcohol dries in the fissure cracks. It's so cool to step into this I did the same thing with UV resin

@conform-contrast4 жыл бұрын
This is so awesome! My only question is that the finish of the Mod Podge / thermochromic pigment ends up being a MATTE finish whereas the mug is GLOSSY. Is there any way that one could add a glossy finish to make it match the mug a bit more and therefore be more invisible?

I tried this but my pigment/mod podge mixture isn't reacting to temperature. I've tested the potent itself, and it does. Any idea how I can fix this?
@melissam12035 жыл бұрын
Awesome tutorial. Love it. Quick question...are these powders toxic? Maybe toxic isn't the right word. I have been seeing a lot with the epoxy cups and how you have to use a mask and we'll ventilated area - wondering if the powders are the same. Is a mask required etc?
@annagodfrey46895 жыл бұрын
Melissa M the powders aren’t toxic or they don’t have a strong chemical odor. I hope I’m wording this right 😉. The powders she’s using are similar to mica powders. (they are powder pigment dyes used in eye shadow and soap). These powders have an extra additive for thermal reaction to hot and cold. You don’t have to use epoxy to seal the powders. You can use mod podge, clear spray paint, and acrylic spray sealers instead of epoxy. Just make sure you hand wash the item. However if you do use epoxy I recommend using a respirator. I’ve been making tumblers for about 2 years now. Epoxy is very dangerous to use if you are not in a well ventilated area. I don’t recommend using it at all if you or anyone in your home has any type of breathing issues or any allergies. (pets included). I promise you I’m not trying to sound rude in any way. Just wanted you to know to be very careful if you start working with epoxy. I hope this helps. 😊

@@annagodfrey4689 thanks so much for clarifying. I have heard a lot of red flags with the epoxy so happy that I can use mod Podge to seal this. Thanks again.

If I'm using a oil based sharpie for my 1st design. I have to bake it in the oven. So after that I will apply the thermochromic. Do I need to bake the thermochromic as well? And am I also able to draw over the thermochromic after with the oil based sharpie.. because I still have to bake the sharpie.?? Any suggestions

Yea it will work a lot faster. However, I’d hold the heat gun further away when drying or you know, it will get to hot and possibly burn. PS. I realize you posted this 8 months ago. But maybe it could help someone else

What about the stickered/vinyl part?
@hotakmomma1014 жыл бұрын
Aubrie Nix, this might be a bit late but; allowing the permanent vinyl to stick well; wait 24 hours after laying it on your surface. So it can have a chance to fully adhere to the surface.

Did you make sure to clean your glass first? Any oils it wong stick well. Also make sure not to stick the transfer tape too much to the mod podge. Hope this helps.

Amanda Aruta I’ve had the same problem several times now. I’ve done more layers, less layers, let dry longer, cleaned mug, etc and still keeps peeling off with the stencil... HELP!!! Please...
@victortorres37766 жыл бұрын
It might be the transfer adhesive paper you’re using it might be gripping too hard on the surface you’re working on. I had this trouble on some of my projects. I don’t use modgepodge yet but I have had it happen on some shot glasses(small ones) and found the paint peel of similar to what you’ve said. I put epoxy resin on the paint to keep it in place. Works this way
@lisarhoney5 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue. I used vinyl as a stencil. They make specific stencil paper for this. Maybe I need that. I did use an utility knife and cut around the design before pulling it off. That helps.
@hotakmomma1014 жыл бұрын
I have had the same issue with the stencil vinyl. I’ve done wood stenciling, and it is better to put down your product, and peel it while it’s still wet. Maybe the same goes for placing on mugs and glass? Make sure you’re cleaning your surface really well. I use 91% rubbing alcohol to clean the mugs/glass/water bottles, before I lay down 651 vinyl.
