Just thought i'd share this as a phantom lut user. 1st they are incredible! 2. Joel Famulero the creator of Phantom Luts says it's best to "expose to the middle." if you know what i mean.
@georgekamenov_10 ай бұрын
Yeah, he mentions they work perfectly fine if you expose to a "what you see is what you get" method but in the Read me for the packs he does also mention you're fine to overexpose them a bit to then bring down in post and get cleaner shadows, which is what I like doing. That said, in general they are pretty versatile and even work well for underexposed images 🙂

why do you choose to do sat and contrast after lut vs before lut?

Gonna be completely honest, that's just how I set it up in these examples but sometimes I'll do it before the lut too 😅 I am by no means a pro colorist so there's a high chance that my node order might not always be optimal 😁

Thank you George, great work here. Any reason why you apply the contrast curve after the LUT and not before? Thanks
@georgekamenov_10 ай бұрын
Honestly, kind of like with the saturation node, I just added the curve to a node after the LUT just for this example. I'd usually mess with the curves directly in the same node as where I do the HDR exposure adjustments, which would be before the LUT. But in these examples I wanted to have it on a separate node to enable it on its own as I'm explaining and I just kind of added it after that without really thinking. In general though, it's good practice to do most adjustments before LUTs or a CST, so good thing you pointed that out 😅

Have found Phantom LUTs useful for 8 bit cameras like the A6400? Do you think slog2 is a viable option for these cameras?
@georgekamenov_10 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Some of the clips I showed in this video were exactly in 8 bit from an a6400. And slog2 is more than capable enough as long as you expose correctly and plan for how you're going to color grade while filming. The a6400 with slog2 is much more capable than people might think.

why do you sometimes use temp (e.g. 10:37) and other times offset?

I usually prefer using the offset when fixing white balance and temp./tint when it's for smaller adjustments like making the image a touch warmer. But in general my go to is almost always the offset wheel.

how do you expose the for the phantom luts ? like what Zebra settings or what IRE?
@georgekamenov_2 ай бұрын
@@priinzharii3377 Zebras in camera on my FX30 shooting in slog3 sgamut3.cine are set to a lower limit of 94+. And I'll typically just go as bright as I can without having zebras show up on whatever I think is most important in my frame. Then I'll pull down exposure in post. I've actually got a few more recent videos talking about this. One is about how I use false color on the FX30 and the other is about "when bad exposure might be good". You could check those out too if you're interested but that's the gist of it. Zebras set to 94+ and go as bright as I can before they show up.

Would like to see u do a tutorial grading Mavic3 Dlog and DlogM using these Luts before I buy them. Unfortunately I don't own a Mavic 3 and don't have any available footage from one, but I'm pretty sure you can find graded images on the Instagram page for Phantom LUTs. In general though, they're designed super well so I'm confident that the version for the Mavic 3 would also work great.

I have two questions, 1: do you edit in da Vinci wide gamut intermediate and 2: I’ve been using the phantom luts as my CST but I’m confused whether or not to add a creative grade before or after the phantom lut node. Any insight? Thanks!
@georgekamenov_8 ай бұрын
For the first one, no, I don't use DaVinci Wide Gamut Intermediate. I just stick to Rec709, Gamma 2.4. For the second one - I personally also use them as a CST and tend to add any creative grading after the LUT node. The things I do before the Phantom LUTs are white balance and exposure adjustments. Most of everything else is done after them. At least that's how I approach it but I'm also not that great at color grading so take it with a grain of salt :)

@georgekamenov_Ай бұрын
@@steve_arcenio You can right click on the master lut folder in the lut library on the color page and then hit open file location. CAN WE USE BOTH TYPES OF PHANTOM LUTS AT THE SAME TIME, I MEAN CONVERSION AND LOOK LUT ?
@georgekamenov_3 ай бұрын
@@maanharman5070 Both types convert your footage from LOG to Rec709. So in short, no, you don't want to use the 2 on top of each other. Technically the Arri ones that I refer to as "conversion" LUTs also have a look to them. So you'll want to use either the Arri ones or the Film look ones separately.

@EdwardUmpaFilms8 ай бұрын
This is so helpful! But can u use this on a neutral shoot? Not using slog?
@georgekamenov_8 ай бұрын
As far as I know, no. These have a color space conversion built into them and they're meant to be used with different Log formats on different cameras. If you used them on a normal shot that was just filmed in a standard picture profile, you're going to get a very bad looking image because the LUTs will be trying to convert footage that's in the wrong color space relative to what they are expecting as an input.

What you have to do is go into Resolve, open the color tab and open the LUTs menu. Then, you right click at the very top on the LUTs folder and click open file location. When it opens the location, you can make a new folder in there and call it PhantomLUTs or whatever you want, and you copy the files from the x65 folder into that new "PhantomLUTs" folder you just made. Then you restart Resolve and they should be in there.
