Finally someone talks about Input DRT. In fusion this is such an important part, because it really manipulates the value of the white and introduces non-linearity. Personally I'd leave the "use white point adaptation" ON. Most color spaces have the same white point anyways, but if you get some ACES VFX shots it is different. After all it depends on how the plates for VFX have been pulled, but usually white point adaptation should be turned ON. I wish you talked about "Disable tone mapping for Fusion conversions" because this is a rather new feature (R18 I guess) and so far no one really knows what it's doing

Hello Casey: Great video as always. I know NOTHING about color management so your explanation of making the TECHNICAL adjustments rather than CREATIVE adjustments really made sense to me. Thank you, Sir. 🙏🏼

Bruh! I just installed v19 yesterday (I had been on v18.5) and setting up the color management was going to be one of the next things I looked into. I had started looking into color management a while back until I found out that Fusion didn't play nice with it and then I stopped at that point. You have the absolute best timing! 😃

@RonaldKasperАй бұрын
Thanks! Somehow this doesn't work for me in Resolve 19.1. The image stills loos less contrasty in Fusion. Not like the log footage, but still less than the color managed footage in the editing page. Another problem I have with this is, that if you use a normal "Text+" effect in the edit page and set the text color to a certain value (#ff0000) the shown color result has not that exact value. Maybe that's because it's a fusion effect. When I add another normal "Text" effect (without the "+") and set the exact same color, the texts have drastically different colors on screen. Am I missing something? Thanks a lot!

aye, Casey. I'd be curious to see more information on "when" to use fusion, particulary when to cut up a clip and run fusion in smaller bits instead of keyframing things across a larger portion. I assume the longer the clip in question, the more resources fusion is using even when it is not actively doing anything "fancy" onscreen?
@AK474000Ай бұрын
It holy depends on what effects you string together. Though keeping fusion edits to smaller slices or sections helps to manage the resources expenditure. If you have loner fusion clips that are not running well, you can always Render In Place or use savers and loaders to render portions of the fusion edit to save on the resources. Just be aware pre rendering clips and sections within fusion means you can't make any edits to it directly anymore You can decompose render in place clips back to the un-rendered clip if you need to make any adjustments and with Savers and Loaders you can move the node tree off to the side unconnected these won't sap resources and leave you the option to make changes later if needed.

You provide amazing videos. Setting the technical specs correctly. Unfortunately, my camera manufacturer is not listed, and I have a hard time figuring out the correct ones among the myriads of options. I shot with a Samsung 24 Ultra, HEVC, MPEG-4, HDR format: SMPTE ST 2094 App 4, version 1, HDR10+ Profile B compatible I would very much appreciate any help. By the way, I have the DaVinci Studio version.

Great video. Most of my DR projects are focused on making slideshows using photos and occasionally some camera / drone video footage. Do you have, or can you create, a tutorial on the best way to color manage photos in DR? For background, I use a Adobe Lightroom CC to first edit my photos and do color correction and then export them as JPGs (but perhaps I should use a different format?) to be imported as stills into Davinci Resolve. What are the best DR settings and approach I should use to properly color manage these types of photos in DR?
@_-raven-_Ай бұрын
Thanks for the tutorial, Casey! Is there also a "trick" to correctly display the colors of shapes in a Fusion composition? For example, Rectangle -> Background (with a nice color) -> Transform -> Merge between MediaIn and MediaOut. I have tried a CST from sRGB/Linear to DaVinciWG/Intermediate before the Merge Node but that did not work. And regarding the theme - Star Trek: The Next Generation

I have the same question, would be great to dive into this as well.
@FranzMetrixsАй бұрын
I have the same issue. A quick workaround I use is applying a 'Gamut' node after the shape/text, with the source space set to 'ITU-R BT.709 (scene)' and the output space to 'DaVinci Wide Gamut'. It’s not 100% accurate, but it’s close enough for me. Despite this, my log footage doesn’t display correctly in Fusion but looks fine in the Edit and Color pages. So the settings in this video do not work for me and I have no explanation so far.

Awesome video. On the topic of matching colors, is there a good way to take a raw image with a generic "flat" color profile and convert it to a log profile? I have a video with log footage and photos and it would be nice to be able to grade it all together...

Great video thank you - Im completely new to editing and I fly an FPV drone using a go pro 12 - When you talked about changing things like Blackmagic etc , do I need to do anything differently for the GoPRo?
@carlomacchiavello6 күн бұрын
If you shoot with flat profile like pro tune (past), flat (today), they are log version of go pro, and you should change input color space if exist for this footage, or use official go pro out if it exist on their website (GoPro website), if you shoot with standard setup you not need it.

Hi Casey. I don’t own any flash cameras. All my video comes from either an iPhone SE from 2020ish, or an old Samsung HMX-Q10 video camera, which is a few years old. What would be your recommendation for colour management using video from these? Please don’t say “buy a better camera” 🤣 I don’t have the budget.

Hey Casey, I'm working on a project in fusion and I was hoping you'd be able to help me with something. I have a 3D FBX object I downloaded off the internet and I'd like to essentially "cut a hole in it". I've tried using the masks and shape 3d nodes and change the blend modes to 'transparent matte', 'replace', etc. but no luck. Do you think you'd have a solution? Thank you :)

I use the new Color Managed Fusion. As i have read in this BMD forum, in order for it to work, i have to check the "Apply froward OOTF" box. This works. But the problem is that i have to check it every time after i open Resolve even if i'm on the same clip in the same project. Is there a way to make it checked by default?
@horaciogargАй бұрын
And what if you only use the fusion studio program without Davinci? Is it the same way to do that??
@bigfranksworldАй бұрын
I shoot with a Gopro 12 and a Gopro 8. I get lots of washed out footage. If I go to "input color space", Gopro isn't in there. What should I pick?
@horaciogargАй бұрын
There is a better solution to resolve a color matching from a gfx (709 or srgb ). You have to change the colorspace from 709 or sRGB to the colorspace you have to use and then color correct it and see it on a 709 output view. I prefiere use ACES for this workflows is a standard for all of us in Vfx world

Okay I just tried the setting you provided near the end of the video and totally messed up my projects - and PNG's with white color is now an 'off white' color if its placed above a color graded clip - the moment its no longer on a color graded clip its back to normal... * Use caution when trying this.

@Casey Faris I need help please! Ever since I installed version 19 of Resolve my audio has been acting funny. This is kind of hard to explain so let me try to be as clear as I can be. My audio waves ARE showing, and they ARE in sync with the video. However, the waves on the audio are not aligning with itself. For example: if I have a clap at 2 minutes even, it's there on the video and the sound is aligned with the clip, but the visual spike where it should be on the "graph" is not until 2 minutes and 8 seconds into the clip. I've tried looking up how to sync it, but the only thing I keep finding is how to sync the audio and video together, which is not what I need. I hope you can help. Thanks!
