Going to order some big tubes of primary colours. Love the limited palette approach because it also saves on buying so many different colours which gets pricey.
@aunicorn38127 жыл бұрын
But she said not to do that
@adelegilesart7 жыл бұрын
A Unicorn she uses only red, yellow and blue, mixed with brown and white. That's exactly what she said to do. And it's exactly what I did and have done ever since. Literally don't buy any other colours now because you don't need to. Saves money because you can literally mix any colour with this palette. I used to buy oil colour sets that had loads of different colours and it's a waste of money.
@aunicorn38127 жыл бұрын
thatotheradele I didn't read that paragraph but I just realized she said that in another video. Basically, don't buy huge ass tubes because it's a waste of money, I wasn't talking about colors I meant size.
@adelegilesart7 жыл бұрын
I didn't see that video but I have saved money this way myself, rather than constantly buying small tubes that run out fast.

The color mix is simple. I've watched a lot of different videos, read books, etc, this is the one of the best approach to mix colors for portraits. Simple and powerful. When I find myself struggling with the right colors and I go back to this video. There are different approaches to this, but the simplists is where I go. Learning this has helped out with establishing the right procedure to figuring out the colors. While other videos are a bit to complex and doesn't always fit the situation, this approach will get you there. But spending time and practice, my go to is here. Thank you

This paint mixing method for a palette is far more to-the-point than the method I was taught when I was a teenager. Sometimes I felt like I spent more time mixing than painting. Now, this is so much easier. Thank you, Daria. You are an angel!

I just watching these because I learned that you don’t have to buy skin toned acrylic paint. You can just use your primary colors to make flesh tones which is extremely easy! I’m all good now because of your work! Thank you❤️

Limited palettes are great, just remember to experiment with your choice of primaries. I've found the traditional primaries give me more natural tones where the yellow, cyan, and magenta version seems to give more vibrant secondary and tertiary colors. I only use primaries plus brown, white, and occasionally black or special colors outside of the range of primaries alone.

@alexisbrownstein85793 жыл бұрын
I’m still a beginner at oil painting because I go on and off with it. I was using this limited pallet for a long time and it was great but one thing to consider for other new painters like myself is that pigments may not mix the way you expect them to! Sometimes it’s very helpful to test color mixes before hand with your primaries to see what types of colors they can create. For example, when I mixed cadmium red and ultramarine blue, instead of making the expected purple, the color was blackish and dull because of the high tinting strength of both paints and the way that the specific pigments mixed. When I did a similar mix replacing the red with alizarin crimson it made a lovely dark purple. If you’re new to painting and haven’t done a test to see what secondary colors the primaries in your pallets mix i really recommend it. It was very helpful not only to make saturated high chroma secondary colors, it also showed me which paints where best to mix in if I wanted to mute another color.

Tip: If you change the red and the blue for magenta and cyan, you can have bright colors and still have the red and blue by mixing. Also, with the complementary colors you can always tone down everything in case of need.

This is really helpful but how do you mix unrealistic colors and have it still be natural? I would like to make a realistic painting bit I want the colors to be made up of salmons and blues. Would that be possible without it looking unorganized and messy?
@calliepickering24806 жыл бұрын
I ser your comment is from a while ago but in case you're still wondering this, you can tone down any harsh unnatural colour by mixing in a bit of colour from the exact opposite spectrum on the colour wheel.
