“Couldn’t get good audio on the summit because this one guy wouldn’t shut the hell up” was probably one of the funniest lines I’ve heard in your 14er videos. 😂

I would've bullshitted with them and put them in the video. Missed an opportunity to make friends.

Think it was just the wind altering my voice, sometimes happens with the GoPro even with a wind buff.

10:49 you're your high altitude brain came out - '13...6 somethin'. It's funny how scrambled the brain can get up high. I usually say some really dumb things to people on the way down after being at elevation for too long.

Between hours of talking to the camera, under 5 of hours of sleep usually and altitude its honestly a miracle I say anything coherent in this videos 😂

@@TheVirtualSherpa I understand. That's a lot more effort than just scaling a mountain.

Most the reports in addition to this vid, i see people do it this way(clockwise) rather than summit HC first.. Does anyone know of any particular reason for that? I think id like to avoid that last 800-1000 climb out after legs being exhausted. Thanks for great trip experience!
@TheVirtualSherpa Жыл бұрын
Best to get the ridge over with as it will take a lot longer than the standard route. In addition, you get out of the "danger" zone aka being above treeline earlier in the day to avoid afternoon storms should you be attempting during summer. Either way works though.

hahah its actually my flashlight. I have no idea why I thought that was a good idea, so dumb. Oh well, if you can't laugh at yourself every once in a while, you aren't living.

I did this last year and it is my favorite 14er to date. Halo ridge is no joke and very exhausting scrambling all day.

That’s the tour de Holy Cross, a very nice challenge. Of my 3 summits of HC two have been via this route, it has great views! Happy trails Sherpa!

11:50 made me laugh. Glad you kept it in there. A little “Holy.....” almost turned into mount of the Holy Sh**”. Love the vids.

I hiked the standard route last year, looked like a million lakes! There was a revolving door of hikers at the summit, but it felt pretty "out there"!

Just did that a week and a half ago! Though did a G. Roach described variation that included summiting Notch Mountain from Half Moon Pass then traversing over to start Halo ridge from there. Class 2+ but definitely recommend.

In doing Holy Cross took a day to explore the cabin and look at the Halo Ridge and decided against it, your right looks gnarly. After watching you on the video still looks a little gnarly but may give it a try next time. You look more like Captain America than a Virtual Sherpa on this hike.

Yeah, the ridge really isn't too bad - just lots of loose rock.

Would this route be advisable for someone who has climbed 6 14ers so far? I feel in the best shape of my life right now, but the hardest thing I've done is the Lulu gulch route on Huron so I don't know if this is too big a step up and I should take the standard route for my first time on this mountain.
@TheVirtualSherpa Жыл бұрын
I think you should be okay - there is not a TON of technical climbing on this one, just a long day.
@georgesheffield15806 ай бұрын
Yes ,it's is long ,high and only a class 2 . Much better views. Can also come from those lakes to the SW , also class 2+ , and learn some route finding .

I would recommend doing the loop summiting Holy Cross first. Gaining that 1k vert at the very end isnt fun! either way, views are amazing for most of the route!
