I lived in colorado for 14 years before moving to western NC. I was able to do Pikes and I instantly found my calling. Longs peak is the first on my bucket list. The mountains here in NC and TN are not to be underestimated either. Cold Mountain and Mount Mitchell are some of the craziest endurance tests I’ve ever done

Congrats on all the summits! Capitol scares the S outta me but I’m still interested. Do you feel like doing all the other 14ers up to that prepared you enough to feel confident?

Thanks! Yes, it definitely helps to do some class 3-4 routes before getting on Capitol, where the loose rock and exposure is substantial. Beyond the 14ers I mentioned here, the 13ers have many good scrambles also, and doing some of those helped prepare me as well.

In addition to his suggestion of getting on class 3-4 routes, get into a climbing gym and just work on that for awhile. You'll gain a bunch of confidence on what you can actually grab to support yourself, and you can get some "safe" exposure (nothing like the knife edge on Capitol, but that's solid, easy maneuvering).
