Any alternative routes to popular peaks is much appreciated. Avoiding crowds is a must.

Love your channel, man. I've lived in Colorado since 1972 and I'm still learning things about hiking and the mountains. Loveland Pass is my year-round go-to for keeping in high altitude shape, since that constant, annoying wind tends to scour away the snow. Stay on that soap box! As the population has grown and more people have come to see the high mountains as a Disney theme park, and the problem with trash, dog poop, and even graffiti has really been amplified. On the other hand, we can all make things a bit better by policing the trail ourselves. Excelsior!

Those views from Gray's really brought me back to the CDT in 2021. Lots of bad stormy days in Colorado but man was the beauty undeniable.

What a wild route! I’ve been that person to pass by trash because it isn’t mine but you’re right. I’ll make sure to change that one my future trips!

hey man.. love your videos and guides. just summited Mt. Yale yesterday and was a couple hundred feet from the top in the boulder section and i saw clif bar wrappers and felt the need to go over multiple rocks just to grab and bring the trash back down. unfortunate to see this stuff all the time so i don't see your rants as negative. keep up the grind.

Did this one a few years ago because I wasn't mentally ready for Kelso ridge and thought it would be more interesting and less crowded than the standard route. Agree with all your comments. The slog really begins after Grizzly peak.

I just copped your limited edition CO/sherpa hat. I've been looking for a good Colorado hat and, although I do plan on doing several more 14ers than I have already done, I have enjoyed discovering (through your video) which of them are completely beyond the pucker level to which I would ever subject myself. So happy to support what you do! Also, fully agreed on leave no trace. Last time I was on Grays, I picked up a piece of trash, shoved it in my pocket, threw it out. Even for someone like me who wasn't supposed to walk and has worse than average balance (in my estimations), it was no trouble.

Awesome! I want to try that one, last summer I made a loop starting at Peru Creek area Up Argentine Pass, Edwards, Grays, Torreys, down past chihuahua lake and back to Peru Creek. If I can get a shuttle, i'd like to try Loveland Pass -> Grizzly -> Torreys -> Grays -> Edwards -> Argentine -> Square top -> Guenella pass

Beautiful footage and details on this route! Been wanting to improve my reclimb skills and eyeing this route. Small differences add up” 💯 Tip for poop ya’all: bring a freezer ziplock gallon bag to put poop bags in or better yet, a reusable sealable bag for poop bags only. Can go in your pack without the smell.

Haha, my dumb ass tried this in February because I wanted to try a winter 14er with an accessible parking lot and minimal avalanche risk. The best feeling in the world was summiting Grizzly peak and seeing how close Torrey’s looked The worst feeling in the world was descending the Grizzly/Torrey’s saddle and realizing that shit was still far away AF. And then deciding 1/3 of the way up Torrey’s that I needed to admit I was gassed and going to have to turn around if I wanted to get back in a reasonable time frame. And then having to resummit Grizzly.

I love your vids! I’ve been climbing class 3 vicariously through you for a month now 😅. Having said that, I haven’t done a true class 3 yet (at least I don’t think)-at least not on a 14er. I saw a CFI video stating Sneffels is a good class 3 starter. Do you think Kelso is, as well? I still haven’t done Torrey’s….
@jakollee
@jakollee Жыл бұрын
It’s my understanding that the crux on the Kelso Ridge is considered class 4; Virtual Sherpa please correct me if I’m off base on that.
@TheVirtualsherpa
@TheVirtualsherpa Жыл бұрын
Kelso is a fine one to start on - think sneffels is a bit more challenging than Kelso because the consistent class 3 and a lot more route finding. Plus the way down also has class 3 vs a walk down of Torreys. Depending on the way you do the crux on sneffels, it could def be considered a class 4+ move

Considering when I did grays I started at the interstate at 1 am an hike 18miles so when I did , Mt Sniktau and Grizzly and Cupids peak. Knowing Kelso Ridge was right there I was like wow! So in my opinion this was easier and a lot more enjoyable for me :D now if I could have gotten to the proper spot to start from the trailhead for Grays maybe telling a dif story :D stay Blessed all!

Quite the contrary, your soapbox about LNT doesn't annoy me at all. In fact, I think you should do a video where you have a CFI Peak Steward come along on the hike with you, and give a brief spiel about LNT principles.

Its one of the great mysteries of life. You could argue, quite easily, that its better to just leave the dog crap on the ground. I truly don't get it.

"I pick it up on the way back" is usually the excuse I hear 🙄 What gets me is when there's a trashcan close enough to be in view and yet, they leave trash on the side of the trail.
