Been there done that and had great time but not going back. Ensolite pad was a long night. Have fun!

Thanks for all your help and information. My wife and I (Flora and Half Pint) are off to start the trail this year for 30 days, starting this week. David and Janet (Golden Colorado).

Thank you, David and Janet! I really appreciate your generosity, and I hope you will reach out if you have any questions as you make your way to Durango. And please, please do let me know how the trip turns out!

Bustang is so underrated. It's a fabulous service and if a person has all day to get back to Denver, it's a beautiful relaxing ride (IME!) with a change of bus in Grand Junction. Honestly the views along the route are beautiful. The bus makes several stops including one that allows time to buy snacks and things from a convenience store. Big fan of the Bustang/Outrider services.

I think this is a really great point, Melanie! I had a great experience on the Bustang the year I met you in person, and I also think the drivers do a great job of keeping the environment really positive. Love the Bustang!

@@OutsideComfortZone so you may be interested to know (or not haha) that my CE trip obvs got a bit derailed coz of TL fire, but for the better I think. Instead of just straight down the CE southbound (which you didnt seem too excited about!!) gonna hop between all the 14rs inside the loop ... not necessarily on the CE trails...but on another trails within the wilderness/national forest areas between. CE/CW! My friend has her SUV..so we can park at East/West road THs and go interior for 2-3 nights at a time! Should be epic ...Gonna knock out a bunch of 14ers...weather permitting!!

Did you use a bear canister? What size?

I’ve used them on some of my CT hikes. I used the BV500 but I think a faster hiker could use a smaller one with a few carefully planned resupplies. The toughest stretch is US 50 to Spring Creek Pass, about 127 miles or so without good resupply options. So use that stretch to help you gauge your needs. Hope this helps!

Thx for the quick reply! I’m a canister guy but my current can is a BV450 and it holds 4-days max of food carefully stuffed. I’ll take your advice and pick up BV 500

@@starbrdtack I used a WildIdeas Bearikade and it held enough food for me to get between Monarch and Spring Creek Pass (I had sent a resupply to Lake City)
