Hey, Great review! Would this pair/fit nicely with the thermarest neoair xlite nxt? The shape of that pad is a little larger at the bottom, I was thinking of purchasing these together. I will be hiking in the UK in spring summer, its possibly overkill but they both look fairly light and cozy. Would be for hiking the entire length of the country so comfort has to be my main priority! Thanks

It does suck that you buy the suit and pretty much ditch the pants (and that they no longer make the even cheaper emergency rain jacket that used to sell for about $10), but one suggestion for the pants is to keep them in the car for days when you're going to be doing something like sitting in bleachers during a windy day, etc., and use them as a WIND layer so that your legs don't get as cold while sitting around. No more feeling that wind pass right through your pants to your legs.

YES!!! PONCHO FTW!!! 🙌🙌🙌 If guy line was around during that time use some as a belt to keep the wind from blowing up and you're good bud! Thanks again for having me on, had a blast! Best of luck out there! And congrats again to all the winners! Let's give it up for SB and Details for all the hard work they put in and all the great prizes!!!

Hey Snackbox, sorry I didn't get to watch your whole show, I was in and out of it. I'm not going to be on the trail as planned this year due to breaking 2 bones in my foot 3 weeks ago and having a severe laceration requiring 7 stitches. 😢😢😢. Maybe next year. Good luck on your nostalgic adventure, I know you can do it. I look forward to watching your adventure.

3:18 Thank you for the bear/food reminder. I work for the agency in my state that must handle all bear complainants. So many of our incidents could be avoided if people would just manage their food/trash responsibly. Unfortunately, we have a lot of tourists that find it fun to feed bears and then go home at the end of the week. They don’t see the detrimental effects of their actions once they return home. On a brighter note, thank you for your tips and tricks videos. I am heading out to hike segments 15 - 28 in a couple of weeks. This will be my first attempt at a long hike. Your videos have been super helpful in my planning for this adventure.

Bustang is so underrated. It's a fabulous service and if a person has all day to get back to Denver, it's a beautiful relaxing ride (IME!) with a change of bus in Grand Junction. Honestly the views along the route are beautiful. The bus makes several stops including one that allows time to buy snacks and things from a convenience store. Big fan of the Bustang/Outrider services.

@@OutsideComfortZone so you may be interested to know (or not haha) that my CE trip obvs got a bit derailed coz of TL fire, but for the better I think. Instead of just straight down the CE southbound (which you didnt seem too excited about!!) gonna hop between all the 14rs inside the loop ... not necessarily on the CE trails...but on another trails within the wilderness/national forest areas between. CE/CW! My friend has her SUV..so we can park at East/West road THs and go interior for 2-3 nights at a time! Should be epic ...Gonna knock out a bunch of 14ers...weather permitting!!

@OutsideComfortZone

I’ve used them on some of my CT hikes. I used the BV500 but I think a faster hiker could use a smaller one with a few carefully planned resupplies. The toughest stretch is US 50 to Spring Creek Pass, about 127 miles or so without good resupply options. So use that stretch to help you gauge your needs. Hope this helps!
@starbrdtack

Thx for the quick reply! I’m a canister guy but my current can is a BV450 and it holds 4-days max of food carefully stuffed. I’ll take your advice and pick up BV 500

Absolutely! In the past, I’ve sent a box to the Raven’s Rest, but I’m not sure it’ll be open this year. That said, there is a small grocery store in Lake City that should have everything you need unless you have a specific dietary restriction. 🙌🏼

Ursacks are fine. The problem is a lot of people that use them don’t use odor proof containers like Mylar bags to put their food inside of that and then put that inside their Ursack. Resealable Mylar bags are a critical part of the solution

I want to do one 14er on my hike next year. Which one is the easiest from the Colorado Trail? Also do you just stash your gear behind a tree and do the hike up the mountain or do you carry it all up there?
@OutsideComfortZone
@OutsideComfortZone 7 ай бұрын
That's a great idea. You definitely should tag San Luis Peak. It's only 1.5 miles to the top off the CT at San Luis Pass, so 3 miles round trip. Lots and lots of folks leave their bags at the pass because you can see them almost the entire climb. In fact, the last time I went there, it was so calm and still in the morning that I could hear the hikers at the top of the peak. Hope this helps, and hope you have a great adventure!

I've been weekend warrior the past 2 years in Colorado and would like to do the CT but am maxing out at 10 miles / day. What can I do to increase mileage? already have 11 lbs baseweight. I'd like to think i could build trail legs weekend warrioring, but is that only a thing with a thru?
@OutsideComfortZone
@OutsideComfortZone 7 ай бұрын
This is a great question, and it's always tough to answer. That said, I think you are doing the right thing by lowering your baseweight and getting out to train on weekends. My experience has been that you can build trail legs on trail somewhat, but that's all dependent on you not getting injured first. So, I would try my best to do two things: walk with your pack an hour a day 5 days a week (even if this is not at an incline), and see if there is any way to give yourself more time on trail so you don't feel rushed. 10 miles a day will still get you to Durango, and you'd probably love the trip more if you had time to smell the proverbial roses. No matter what, keep on doing the weekend warrioring--it's worth it no matter what. Hope this helps!

Hello! Thanks for the video. My wife and daughter are going to meet me somewhere on the trail for a zero and a resupply. If you were to pick ONE place on the trail where you would take the help the most where would it be? I was possibly thinking for a ride into Salida?
@OutsideComfortZone
@OutsideComfortZone 8 ай бұрын
That's a great question. I think the Salida trip is probably a good meetup place for a ride and zero. If not there, Spring Creek Pass would be great to get a ride down to Lake City, one of my favorite places on the trail. Both are great options. It's also going to really help you boost your spirits when you have a tough day to know that your family will be there somewhere along the way. Hope this helps!

To be honest, I don't see a reason to use a quilt. I just use my sleeping bag opened and in similar fashion as quilt. This way, I can choose whether I want to use a sleeping bad or quilt. 2-in1 :)

Makes sense to me. I like the quilt because the mummy part over the head gets caught on my shoulders when I toss and turn, but I also think you are right that a sleeping bag can work just as well for most people. Happy Hiking!
