I like how you talk through your process, down to the smallest instructional detail. Clear and free-flowing, which is a bonus for a beginner like me. Your speed, technique, and final frame are also pretty riveting. Often KZbin “how to paint” channels I see have annoying background music, choppy editing, minimal useful advice, and kitschy results. I would love to know how long you’ve been painting to get this good. Your talent shines remarkably.

Glad it was helpful! Thank you! I’ve been painting for about 18yrs now. It doesn’t take 18yrs to catch techniques though! Over the years, I’ve learned certain techniques that make painting with acrylics easier and faster. And I hope my tutorials can help beginners catch those techniques 🎨👍

I retired a few years ago and decided to paint at 72 years young. I knew nothing about painting or much about art. You have been a lifesaver especially this last year . Thank you for sharing your talent and passion. I wonder why carbon black and not mars black? I think I see the difference. Mars black can really take over colors. Thank you again. This flower is called a thistle flower. It is a great flower for our bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. The milk thistle is the nursery for butterfly larva. Plant these in your gardens to help our pollinators. Great Job! Love your work. Thank you for sharing. Art is my soul and passion! :)

I've seen lots of those blooming here in NC. They are called Thistles. The plant stems have needles that prick and hurt your hands. I love to watch you paint. I'm learning a lot. Thanks so much.

I'm so happy you occasionally step out of your comfort range and amaze us with something new and beautiful. I have to be truthful in saying I was a little doubtful how this was going to turn out in the beginning, but you sure surprised me by painting not only a beautifully blended background, but also flowers I have never seem before (and I know my flowers!) The butterflies are beautifully detailed. Good eye! I think if I were to paint this, the only thing I would do differently would be to change the flower color to purple/lavender color. I think it would compliment the orange in the butterflies. Thanks for your talented videos and helping us learn. ~~~Gail

Beautiful painting! The flower looks like a member of the liatris flower family, possibly liatris squarrossa. They are lovely native plants, check out prairie moon nursery if you want to grow them in your garden. Butterflies really do love them

It looks like what you're painting might be what's called bee balm. Not 100% certain but if not, it's pretty similar. I'd say it was a type of thistle except for the base that supports it. Beautiful painting. Gonna try it soon.

I am going to give this one a try. I painted the sailboat with your guidance and have had a lot of compliments on it. To me, this flower looks similar to Monarda also called Bee Balm, although I have a darker version of it in my garden
