I'm finally able to talk again without breaking out in massive coughing fits! I'm sorry for the weird audio in this one. The drawing portion of the video was recorded just after I started getting better so I still sound a bit like a frog instead of my usual chipmunk voice LOL.

What was the cause of your coughing? I've been having a lot of coughing problems and no real reason why.

I enjoyed this one, as I have picked out the 1st portrait i will be attempting on black paper, after the next two... it is a composition with a ton of black in it so I figured why not try doing on black paper. So, in addition to the black paper or trying this board, I at least need to get one of the "Derwent chinese white," to add to my existing pencils. Thanks!

Adore using colored paper, almost all of my paper is at the very least an ivory white because I just love the pop you can get with colored paper.

This is simply gorgeous. I love the color variations in the feathers. Have you tried the Cezanne colored pencils from Jerry's Artarama? They are touting how professional and comparable they are to other more expensive brands. I would love your perspective on this. I just bought a set, but am new to colored pencils and am still deciding if it is a medium I'm really into. The only thing I have to compare them to are some older Prismacolors, which still seem more creamy and rich. Your review could really be helpful to newer artists on a budget. Thanks so much.

Awesome. I missed your videos, am glad you are well again! I usually do a white underpainting when working on black paper that I blend with OMS. I find that prevents some of the dullness. How are the lightfast ratings of the Derwent Drawing Pencils?

Could you get brighter colors on black paper by putting down a thin white Inktense wash on the areas where you want brighter pencil colors, or would that mess up the tooth of the paper? Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. :-)

With this paper I'm not sure how well it would like that amount of water. In theory yeah, that would work but the paper my get a bit weird. I will have to try it one of these days :)

I ordered the black board and I am not loving it. It seems slick and the pencils don't seem to want to adhere. I think I went on the front side since there was a label on the back. It is not awful, but I am wondering if pastel pencils would do better on this? Either that or I did something wrong. I do have that Chinese white pencil so maybe I will add that.

Very important point about making a science about the exact color pencil you are using. It does not help you grow as an artist if you follow another artist exact dry tools and brand. Experimenting is where you find your style and experience as an artist.
