Canson paper also come in dozens of colors, Many artist uses a pale gray or cream color so the the white colored pencil give really good highlights as those areas are whiter than the paper. Check some old masters drawings.

most are, the hatching (1st one) created a look of a rougher surface to the sphere, the layering (2nd one) creates a smooth texture almost like clay, and that's typically more appealing

I like the second and third techniques... the second is more realistic but the third is easier to achieve.

Did you try adding pastel in Color pencil?
@DEAD-FROM-NY10 жыл бұрын
For me the medium seems to dictate my technique. I use hatching for pen and ink but have always gravitated or simply automatically used. the rolling ball technique for colored pencil. Chalk always finger blending.
@Unidentifiedsinger109 жыл бұрын
On the second drawing approach, how much pressure are you using when you circle it. I draw a lot, but I haven't really done too much with colored pencils, and am just curious.

what brand of white color pencil do you use ? it is ... so WHITE.
@snowonder02410 жыл бұрын
maybe a prisma coloured pencil? they are really good pencils.
@NoblesseObligedCP9 жыл бұрын
snowonder024 eww prismacolor suck they use to be good before they went to mexico after they sold it. Caran D'Ache makes a very opaque white that is extremely lightfast but they cost a lot. The Luminance (wax based) set not the Pablos (oil based).
@NoblesseObligedCP9 жыл бұрын
***** That seems to be the thing, they always had problems with the core though. It's because they are not bonded to the wood. Now though the casings are off center a lot and casing is is not sturdy. The core are also super soft they don't hold a point for long at all and a very prone to breaking the tip and inside.

+Shelfen The staircase have you tried using an electric sharpener? i've heard that helps.
@tiagodagostini8 жыл бұрын
+Shelfen Well the definition of what is a lot really might be the issue. I never ever saw a Faber Castell Polychromo or a Caran Ache pencil break a point even ONCE while sharpening. The only way I can imagine those pencil breaking a point is by falling into the ground AND being stepped into by someone using heavy boots while dancing polka.

@DeaLenihan7 жыл бұрын
Ho Yan Law you can copy the pages of your coloring books on a copier so you can practice and not worry. Colored pencil uses MANY layers. If I were to give a tip I would say if your pictures don’t look great just keep going...they are probably just not finished. Start with light layers and keep adding.

@sniperwiper3210 жыл бұрын
White pencil will not "be white" over other colour pencils. CP are not opaque enough to cover. Maybe it works over a light watercolour wash or CP with OMS ( odourless Mineral Spirit) but i havent tried so i cant really say for sure. Have a look at my tiger portrait and notice the whiskers, www.deviantart.com/art/Tiger-drawing-333153964 they dont truly show up as white. The trick is not to press too hard , light light pressure and many layers.

Regarding the pressure used with each pencil, I'm a beginning art student, and I'd like to learn more, but my teacher states that full pressure is to be used with a colored pencil, in order to remove white areas, however when dealing with these techniques, I'm unsure what level of pressure to apply to each pencil/type, any tips?
the best and most cost efficient is probably the Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils

I can use cheap colouring pencils right?
@RootinTootinShootinBeingKind9 жыл бұрын
+Karl M. Yes you can use cheap colored pencils. Though results might vary depending on how cheap your colored pencil is and how waxy the color/lead is and how they layer. But In general these are basic techniques. Use for any colored pencil. Even crayola.
@gummybear27009 жыл бұрын
Ah ok, thank you :)
@zhitero9 жыл бұрын
+Melanie Tong I use Faber Castell color and don't find same results...what color pencils can you suggest please
@RootinTootinShootinBeingKind9 жыл бұрын
+Jethro Jeaven Merin You might be experiencing a difference because Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils are more oil based, instead of more waxed based like most colored pencils. Which means your colored pencils may be more intense because you can layer better and don't experience something called a "Wax bloom" that quickly.(I also heard that oil colored pencils can blend better) In general, I don't think you need different color pencils. Faber Castell's are pretty pricey and are less prone to the lead breaking inside the case like wax colored pencils (And the one of the most popular brand of Oil color pencils). And it could be that, you put a lot of pressure making it not seem so gradient like. I recommend that you look up the difference between Oil and Wax colored pencils, so you can work with it. But... If it really causes you trouble... Popular wax based artist colored pencils are Prismacolor, Derwent, and Spectrum Noir. (They're pretty expensive though, and I heard a couple of people are complaining about Prismacolor. So do some research on that). Staedtler is a alright for cheaper stuff. And Crayola is also alright, but will not last with time because it's not Lightfast.
