In this video I swatch and give my first impressions a 48 half pan metal tin of Rembrandt Artist Watercolor paints! Thanks to amazing fans who watched ads and used my Jackson Art Supplies referral link ( tinyurl.com/y8... ).
Since I’m in America, when I order from Jackson’s I try to “go nuts”, placing as large an order as I can for something I either can’t get in America or would be prohibitively expensive. This set of Royal Talens Rembrandt Artists’ Watercolors includes 48 (😳) half pans. Normally I would not get such a big set for something I’ve never tried but in this case the price difference with the smaller sets was such that this was by far the best deal.
This video is a first impression of these paints. In the coming weeks I will be doing a full review of these Rembrandt paints.

Aureoline is a color with three versions a genuine which is PY40(fugitive in lightfastness),a hue made with a yellow and white and lastly one made from just yellow pigments. The hues are light fast while the genuine is fugitive. Also PY150 is really nickel azo yellow which is my fave yellow :3

"Raw Sienna" is a transparent, mainly yellow earth pigment, color dominated by hydrated iron oxide. As such, it can be PY42, PY43 or PBr7, or a mixture thereof. And a mixture can also contain PR101. Siennas and Umbers can be closely related. The important difference is the color (which can vary a lot), because that distinction predates the modern technical. If it looks more yellow than brown, it's a Sienna, otherwise an Umber. Technically, PY43 becomes PBr7 when the Manganese Oxide (browner) content becomes higher than a certain thresholds. Siennas never contain PBr6 (artificial Umber), because Manganese content is not intentionally desired in a Sienna, just something that occur naturally. And you're right. 😁 Raw Sienna is great as base for European skin tones.

hi there! just wanted to pop in and ask if you your rembrandt viridian also behaves the same way karia's does - difficult to rewet, not intense, super light. mine is like that and i've been wondering if i just got a faulty viridian or if that's the way rembrandt makes it. any input would be greatly appreciated! hope you're well!

the brush looks to be something great. I mean sable! not bad. to bring the hairs in form, is to wrap then in paper tissue when it is wet. to dry. I just heard that yesterday from a live stream on the DaVinci channel (the live stream was a few mothn old. I just happened to watch it yesterday)

I got my 48 tin from Jackson's Art Supplies and filled it with my own collection of M Graham, Winsor&Newton, Koi and VanGogh paints. VanGogh is a student grade paint, I think, and it works great for what I use it for. I love their Naples Yellow Red for a skin tone and sandy colors. Their Indigo is a great color too. I use it for night skies, or galaxy paintings. I'm not a fan of Viridian green either, I prefer Pthalo Green usually, and/or Hookers' Green to Viridian and even Sap Green. But that's just me. That Not Raw Sienna reminds me more of a Naples Yellow than Raw Sienna though, that was surprising. It's an interesting set, but not one that I would get a whole range of personally. It will still be interesting to see what you make of the paints when you use them more. Nice video, and my mom (And I) loved your kitty at the end by the way. She was walking by when she saw your cat xD

Yes! I made my own set of 48. I’m going to make some changes to it later on. I also agree about phthalocyanine green! It’s soooo much better than viridian. I got a tin of 48 on amazon and made my own palette of 48. I showed in the middle of my 128 half pan palette video.

Nice! I have the 12 color set. I personally think Talens is a little too optimistic about the lightfastness of some of its colors. With a scale of one to three with almost everything scoring three it's harder to interpret what it means. Compare that to Schmincke, which scores colors with the same pigments with 3, 4 or 5 out of 5. 3 doesn't mean a color is bad, but it may fade in tints, for example. There's a split between brands that use PBr 7 for the siennas and those that use PY42/43 and PR 101. Winsor & Newton and Schmincke are also in the PY/PR camp. I like transparent PR 101, whatever it happens to be called. I also like a good PBr7 burnt sienna. For me it's most important that the mixes with colors like ultramarine work as expected. Oh, and I've used a similar tone of raw sienna in several portraits of European people. Does the job quite well, actually. It depends on the exact skin tone and lighting, of course.

I've got my set of Rembrandt 48 colours about a year ago, and my set has phthalo blue green shade instead of indigo. not sure about the rest of the colours, though, have to check them. And yes first layer of Rembrandts sinks to the paper quite easily, hence colour shift. next layer of colour, even if previous one was not very intense, intensifies colour a lot. guess because paper is sealed with gum arabic, so the pigment stays on top. so if you're not working in layers, that paint might be disapointing to you.

the difference between phtalo green and viridian is first af all the granulation (viridian is granulating - for dreamy effects for example) and in the end of course in the mixes. usually non of the most used greens of many landscape artists is used pure. always it's about, what can I do with it in a mix. so, I guess, that is why some colours are like they are and still around for more than 100 years. although, the trend to reduce granulation was broken in later years

😅 ok so stupid question: teal is greener, is it also always a darker value?
@gristlevonraben
@gristlevonraben 6 жыл бұрын
ColoringKaria yes. Both turquoise and teal can be shades and tints, so in terms of shade values either one could be darker. But because teal has more blue in it, it is naturally darker in hue , we see it as greener even though it is bluer than turquoise. Turquoise is less blue than teal, but oddly looks more blue because it is less intent, less hue, less pigments. So teal is often darker, looks greener, but is technically a little more bluer and so looks greener and darker. I researched my answer just in case.

Hello, I was looking into these paints and found your swatching video. Are these really matte because I heard someone else saying that. I am not familiar with Sennelier, but I hear you say they are more vibrant. I don’t like paints that are really matte, no shine at all. Thank you😌
@ColoringKaria
@ColoringKaria 4 жыл бұрын
Judith F sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I’m a little confused by this question. Vibrant colors and matte paints aren’t the same thing. For the most part watercolors are not matte expect for some extremely opaque colors. Watercolor isn’t really a matte medium. These are shiny, I think most watercolors are.
@judithf9297
@judithf9297 4 жыл бұрын
@@ColoringKaria I asked you this question because I know vibrant and matte are not the same thing, how would I not know that. I watched several videos where they say the Sennelier watercolors after they dried, they are not as vibrant as other brands. You say they are vibrant, so that's the confusing thing
@ColoringKaria
@ColoringKaria 4 жыл бұрын
The way the question was worded it was confusing as too what exactly was meant. Ok so to answer this question. It’s all about how you use them. If you don’t layer at all than sennelier doesn’t have the same first layer vibrancy for a lot of colors compared to something like Daniel Smith. But if you layer a lot than sennelier paints create and vibrancy and luminosity that is hard to match. A lot of other brands don’t layer or lift easily but sennelier gets more vibrant and wonderful as you layer. There are a lot of things that people don’t know. I don’t know what people know or don’t know.
