Then again, I had the privilege of growing up in a really diverse setting and it was instilled in me when I was young that colorism is harmful.

India was ruled by the British for approximately 300 years. This influenced and affected the Indian sub-continent in ways of thinking. They were ridiculed by the British. They were told they were uneducated, dark, and mannerless. Which is false. Only those Indians whom had an education thrived. The Indian film industry also thrives on this philosophy. Those Indian women-actress are selected based on “light skinned”. It’s demoralizing, unjust, mannerless. Colorism.. should not exist. We are all Humans! As an dark skinned India girl...I came across discrimination so many time...at family , school , even in roads ..I was quite infamous for being called 'kali'...I was in class 9 when some roadside boy's started calling me kali as I was a everyday passerby at that road for my tution and school it continued till class 12 ..I felt so sad I cried many times at my room alone feeling like a sinner...like it was my fault for being dark skinned I tried to protesting against them but they didn't care and continued...one day I cried and told everything to my mother and father they tried to stop them by telling their parents about their behaviour...but those parents never tried to stop those boys ... eventually I just started ignoring....... though I actually grew up with people around me discriminating me ... literally everyone of my family and neighbours too tried giving my mom so many tips use this or that to make her fair or you can say 'marriageable'.... All these people made me so self conscious with low self-esteem like I deserve nothing..... I'm still trying hard to gain my self esteem and love myself ❤️
@chatgpt4135 Жыл бұрын
U r already marriageable n good , The words fair skinned and marriageable have no equal connection at all, Marriage is done for togetherness n respect n love not for u becoming a fair immovable toy for some random man and he choosing ur body n selwvtive body features randomly as if u choose by pinpojnting at a tv with electronic features n netflix without asking the TV's will , these way a marriage may last long due to societal pressure but is it a divine marriage even with both ppl love n respect for each other without sexualising or fantasizing someone's (especially girl's )body to decide whether to spend life with them? Make a guy fall in love with u with a Strong, Unresistable, And Very Sweet n Soft spoken personality , believe me don't hurry to find a partner in ur low self esteem state when u urselves don't know ur own worth, plus points and shortcomings cmpltly otherwise u won't understand how a ideal partner must be, this way u will get married to random man who fantasizes fair fair cheeks and fair backs n bellies n fairy female bodies, even kids will be born but as a rigid societal pressure , if u r not strong remember ur nxt gen won't be strong n get into trauma just like u, If u make a change in ur life, ur future kids will live a worthy life without discrimination, cos u will get confidence to teach them against society's discrimination ideas!

Maybe it's because she begins her talk with such a pathetic triviality of 'I can't get the right makeup'. Or perhaps the fact that she inadvertently reveals that the discrimination is actually about perceived attractiveness but then chooses to focus only on one aspect, which is skin tone. What about heightism, a-symmetrism or weightism? It's so self absorbed and solipsistic for an attractive, average height, symmetrically faced slim person to get on stage and say 'poor me' focusing on her trivial concerns to the exclusion of far more insidious and pervasive discrimination that takes place everyday.
@melanieenmats6 жыл бұрын
something is deeply wrong if you invent a new word where one already exists: rascism. This is a clear sign this person is trying to dupe you, and maybe herself too.
@nicholascresswell86476 жыл бұрын
I watched another video which led me here which would have given me that impression, but going through this whole video I can see why 'colorism' is being used. The idea is two people who consider themselves the same race may still discriminate against one another based on shade of skin. It's a bit like the way people talk about 'gingers'. They may be of the same 'race' as a blond person but can be discriminated against because of their appearance and that is not technically racism.
@kylejohnson79866 жыл бұрын
I bet you also say "All lives matter" when people talk about police brutality. How dare you take away from people's troubles by saying "other issues exist so this is self-absorbed" Colorism is pervasive. My wife faces it, my daughter faces it. @@kylejohnson7986 On the contrary. Since men are predominantly the victims of police brutality I think we need a "men's lives matter" movement which focuses on the discrimination of men in the criminal justice system, vilifying the police, ignoring all the women who are brutalized by police (which is even glorified in youtube videos of such events), ignoring the fact that men are disproportionately likely to engage in criminal behaviour and seeking to blame society and in particular women and the matriarchal justice system for men's aggressive behaviour and for the fact that there isn't an equal number of men and women in jail and prison. As for your second point her complaining about colourism is like complaining that your supermarket doesn't sell all the food you like, all the while there is a family near you who can't afford to eat. If she had discussed colourism in the wider context of discrimination based on perceived physical beauty, I wouldn't have had a problem with the video, but the fact she focuses on this issue, not while there are other issues, but while there are considerably worse issues around this sort of discrimination, shows her talk was entirely self motivated because of her own experience, not out of a desire to help others.

It's sad. Blame Bollywood, the Indian cast system and the perception of the Indians themselves for believing fair skin is better.

Beauty is within every tribe of people, from light to dark. Mankind just need to embrace who they are & take of the mask of trying to be someone else. We need to appreciate what The Most High blessed us with. She is very beautiful.
