I started taking jewelry rendering classes in 1989 and apparently one teacher asked us to get colored pencils because I just found them in my ArtBin along with my gouache. They are Berol Prismacolor, just black, white and metallic silver. For some reason they are not only unused but never even sharpened, so I see some silver accents in my future. As an old Venus Paradise aficionado, when I went looking for new pencils I went with Polychromos because they felt similar in my hand. And for watercolor pencils, I have some Caran D’Ache and Derwent. Just found your videos when looking up Berol and am enjoying listening.

My visit to a recent “Highway” stretch yard sale yielded 49 rare Prismacolor Pencils: neons red and green; metallics including 5 copper; deco aqua, orange and blue. Thanks so much for helping refresh my memory. 😊
@ColorMyWorld2 жыл бұрын
Wow!!!!! Deco colors are really hard to find. The Coppers are easier because nobody ever uses it. Are they heavier than the other pencils? The really old ones are noticeable heavier, 951 right? Hold one in one hand and a regular in the other. Close your eyes and you will feel a difference. Ask someone to place them in your hand so you don't know which is which. Neon reds and greens are sometimes fakes, but they draw well enough. I have the real deal and a few fakes. The fakes are very light weight in comparison to the real ones.
@ghmorgan89892 жыл бұрын
@@ColorMyWorld they are not the heavier pencils, they appear to be the latest (Sanford) version. Some of them were from the 6-pencil set. In comparison to what I bought last year from the same vendor, I bought a lot fewer pencils, only one rare deco, and two 6-pencil metallic sets, a few more open stock metallic, and a mash-up set of verithins (gold caps with either Berol or Sanford labels). Had a much better sense of what I was looking for during most recent attempt. Got about 325 pencils on all, mostly Eagle or Berol-USA labeling.
@ColorMyWorld2 жыл бұрын
@@ghmorgan8989 I used to never use my Berol or Sanford, but I admit I have used them lately because of the quality difference. I never use my Eagle or my ultra rares.

Thanks so much for the neon green prisma pencil. Such a lovely shade. My neighbor was a grafic artist and has lots of old colored pencils. She is selling them. I saw the Eagle turquoise on a few pencils. Also a bunch of black wood Fabre Castell I may get. Nice large core. Then a couple small boxes of pencils I never heard of.

Oh my word! I didn’t realize that I owned new, unsharpened Canadian 970 Orchid, a 971 yellow, a 972 pencil without a name that looks Fuschia and 951 Copper (this one I have a few sharpened ones as well). Never thought my old pencils could be rare. They came in a folding box like yours except it’s a red box of 60 Berol Prismacolor. I also have 2 of the 920 Aqua that I thought were mislabeled 992. (A new unsharpened one and a used one I was using up as a 992). And I have a neon green. And a metallic file blue 1017. This keeps on getting better! Lori you made my day!

Just want to say I'm 13 and I watched every minute of this video.... And I have the prismacolors 90s color range same exact one that you have and that's my favorite.... The 90s color range pallet is better than the new prismacolors they write better they blend better and the colors are way more vibrant than they are now

Thank you for sharing your knowledge about this. I had no idea about the history and that some of those pencils are collectables. I live in Canada, and I remember when I was young that the Berol Prismacolors came in a box similar to the one you showed, but it was red and gold. Not sure about the year, but it was in the 80s and they were pretty high priced. Berol also made Canadiana pencils which were less expensive, I think it was during the same time? but not sure. I think my mom bought me the Canadiana first, and later in life I got the Prismas. I still have both brands but the sets are incomplete, as well as the Laurentien brand which I love. They were all stashed away until I got into adult coloring. I have some of the rare ones, but actually had no idea they are rare! The are pretty used up, but still... At some point I thought of giving those old sets away, but now that I know the history, I think I'll hold on to them, and will be on the lookout for more to complete the set! Thanks! :)

I saw the thumbnail and immediately my attention went to the Bruynzeel tin with the gnomes. My brother and I had that when we were kids! It was like being sucked into the past. I showed my dad and he still remembers it. So weird! And awesome that you have it.
My favorites are the Berol ones best. I need to dig out mine from the 80's and see if I have any of the rare ones.

Hello....I have two pencils that were given to me by my husband's Aunt. They belonged to her husband who passed away probably about 32-35 years ago. They are a Berol PrismaColor (the Prisma is in all caps of one font and the COLOR is in all caps of another font. One is called Green Bice 913 and the other is called Yellow Bice 990. And I have two others called Brite Purple 995 and Write Lt. Yellow Green 991. Do you know anything about those colors? Oops, you did it again! You have my complete attention with all this nifty info! Now I wish I had a car to go to yard sales & flea markets... My Verithins came in the 90's style box, and I only got those a few years ago. You are right, the set up is great, until one or more of the pencils can't be seen. They also fall sideways if you have too many pencils out of the box. So irritating to me that I put my Verithins in a coffee mug though I still use my box for duplicates. Thanks for all your hard work on this Lori! Hugs from Maine!

I found this quite fascinating because my 4 oldest pencils have the Empire name - they say ‘Pedigree Empire’ and has a stylized “e” logo. So was Pedigree a subsidiary of Empire, or was it just the name of this line of pencils?? These pencils have been in my stash since childhood and I’ve no idea when and where I got them. The material they’re made from isn’t solid wood. It’s plastic-like, slightly flexible and for some reason, it feels… gross and it skeeved me out as a kid. No need to enter my name in the contest: I already have the 6 Prismacolor neons plus the 6 metallics. These came in my 120-set that I purchased in 2000. I believe I have the original box + trays somewhere but I do store my pencils in a zippered fabric case.

I'd love it if you might share any tricks or clues. :)

I enjoyed the introduction and the information. I purchase bags of mixed brands of pencil crayons at thrift store. Usually 100 or so pencils for two dollars. Many are vintage editions of Prismacolors, etc.. Vintage sets in boxes sell for about the same. In Canada the only true pencil crayon are ‘Laurentians’ from the 1960’s. All other coloured pencils in the world are ‘want-to-bes’.

I had no idea there are Prismacolor pencils that are rare. Since I've been using Prisma since the late 70s-early 80s now, I have few of the ones you refer to as vintage rare; I actually have. I also have a few of those display box sets, and the copper, silver, and gold were put aside since I didn't have any need for them back then. I will post a few pictures in some of my coloring social media groups. I think some people who collect might get a thrill out of seeing these pencils. (I was looking for info on Crayola 150 sets and your video came up) So glad I never got rid of them!
