Thank you so much. This will help me a lot to keep my favorite coloring books together. I have never been a fan of black lines showing, so usually I carefully remove the page from the book, then scan it into Inkscape and change the opacity to 10%. I print it on good quality paper and there is only a faint line left as my reference, but easily covered up by any pencil.

"...change the opacity to 10%"... I feel like an idiot for never thinking of this.

That is an excellent idea I will keep for future projects. I normally do jot buy coloring books with crappy paper, but every so often there's one that has such quality artwork that I can't resist. With them, the plan is to copy onto better paper and changing the opacity to 10% is genius. What setting do you recommend for gray scale? I wouldn't want to lose some of the delicate shading. Thanks in advance. I know this is two years old, so hoping you see my question.

I've had decent success with Gelly Roll white pens, especially the thicker tip. But the finer tips work also when the lines are thinner. Sometimes you have to go over more than once, but not always. And sometimes I use gel pens (of various brands) to lessen the black lines around flowers, using a color as close to the color of the flower as possible. It doesn't always eliminate the black, but it "softens" (?) it.

I’ve been a Windsor and Newton user for some time now and it’s the best. It’s best quality is that it is ink (not paint) and can sink into the paper without changing the surface of the page. I wish you would have tested the blending solution on only half of the circle so we could see how the products looked without it. I rarely if ever use a blending solution (or a colorless blender) and prefer to let the layers and the pencils do the work.

Yep, that's what I love about it. It covered really nicely too.

I'm so Glad you have done this test Lori because it's such a pain to found the great white to avoid these thick dark lines which i hate, i use to avoid them with Acrylic paint pens but know with the test you've show i would like to test the Winsor & Newton Ink white and seen if i like it better so this is very helpfull! Thank You for the great video, it will be much more easier to choose the one for us.

This is a very useful test. I had already bought a White Pitt Pen with a brush tip, so far I have only tried it in Hanna Karlzon. It dulls the lines but there is a small texture difference. I also want to try Distress Oxide or Distress Paint, but White is out of stock here.

Thank you for this Lori, I've been disappointed on and off with Posca and the Signo Uniball for some time, I've tried gouache and matt acrylic with varying success. I think a bottle of W&N White Ink is a worthwhile investment to experiment with.

I like this effect when I've seen it done. Especially on flowers it looks so amazing.

Oh yes, I am going to be using the look. I like it too. There are a lot of textures that can be done with it. Make edges glow. I am going to be having a lot of fun especially with grey toned paper. It will be brighter.

Thank you so much. I did buy Dr. Martin a while back to cover lines too. I find the coloring books lines sometimes too dark and larges. I tried to use a reservoir pen but the ink was not flowing too well so I return to the brush.

I just wanted to say that you can get coverage with posca. You just have to shake it for a long time, like 5 min shake shake🤣 I use Posca all the time and love it

Thank you for this! I had been wondering how the different whites stacked up against eachother. Random question for you: I heard you sharpen your pencil @4:36 with an electric sharpener. Which one do you use!? I have chronic pain, so manually sharpening my pencils always kills my neck & shoulders. A Prisma-friendly electric sharpener would be a Godsend!

Lori-do you have updated results to this test? I spotted the DR ph in white at blicks but it stated that it was permanent. It was a little different than the one you have. Since I wasn’t sure if colored pencil would work over it-I purchased the Windsor Newton that happened to be only $3.50 woohoo

One of my gemstone coloring books has the artist name and email address right on the bottom of each page. I find this very irritating. Thanks for addressing this subject.

That is all sorts of wrong and I would have returned the book. You buy books to do your own art. Unless it's something amazing (I have a few that the illustrator deserved to sign) the artwork is for you to be proud of.

Lori, since the Pen ink is designed to go with airbrush or technical pens, I think I'll dig out my ancient set of Kohinoor Technical pens, then I can lay down the correct line width and maybe avoid the 'brush texture' - just thinking outloud...
