Hell perverts everything... even color itself. Real talk though, this mod ROCKS! Thank you so much for introducing me to this! I have yet to find a weapon mod for this that suits my tastes (I've tried quite a few), and I am very much considering making my own mod solely for this. As ludicrous as the bestiary may be, it is quite nice that it color- codes every enemy (even if they are just reskins) so you can tell what is liable to be a bigger threat, even if you don't know every monster's power like I do. The Black and White level enemies are actually far more rare than this video implies (fortunately), and they are kinda ludicrous, but there is some balancing involved here. While they do have sxxxtons of health and vicious attacks, several of their abilities drop ammo, so you probably won't run out mid- fight. They also require a level of strategy to beat- you have to use everything you can to your advantage- your weapons, the level, other monsters, in some cases even the boss itself or its abilities. Me likey!

This mod is pretty cool when the randomized monster variants don’t fuck you over. I was playing it with vanilla Doom 2 and beat the first map no problem, but Map 2 Underhalls killed my run dead. One of the first three enemies was a black tier zombieman with a Plasma Gun and a Super Shotgun. I only had 3 Rockets, a Pistol, and Pump Shotgun. Didn’t stand a chance against him.

The mod has been recently updated. It not only features some new monsters, but also additional tiers. The new types are Cyan enemies which are ice-based and try to dodge your shots. There’s fireblu enemies which are fire-based. There’s grey enemies which have area-of-affect attacks. And finally there’s abyss enemies, which are extremely hard mini-bosses.

Oh my! Discovering this review made my day. I am glad you found CH fun to play, and I do like how you explained and summed up the system. RNG is cruel mistress indeed. I recommend checking the mod called Custom Doom that allows you to edit monster damage dealed/taken factors, player speeds, damages and stuff cause that apparently doesnt conflict with other mods; incase you want more control over the game difficulty in other way than just monster amount.

Got this mod. It really amps the difficulty in interesting ways. Once boring foes become really really dangerous with the right color. Pink Shotgunners are a nightmare with their nonstop plasma spam. Colored Spectres are pure pain

You have some interesting mods reviews here. Subbed. I've been playing this for a long time now and it never gets old. It's hard to play vanilla because of that. Also, try this with DoomRL Arsenal. You'd enjoy it and makes Doom feel much more a roguelike RPG. And the number of arsenals, classes and armors to use gives you a fighting chance against the unfair boss enemies.

I keep hearing how well Combined_Arms goes with Colorful hell, and hey Icarus, if you haven't noticed yet, the Nailgun's altfire gives you cells after you hit monsters with it, so if you wanna go nuts with the plasma weapons, abuse that bear trap gun.

I like the idea of Colourful Hell, but the difficulty always seems too high to have fun throughout a megawad. Playing a single level or two is okay, but long sessions seem nearly impossible as I'll run into something like a Black Imp that ruins my day. Then again, I always play on Ultra Violence difficulty. Try mixing this with the LegenDoom gameplay wad - where enemies can randomly go berserk, refill their health, and double their attack speed - and you get a crazy challenge!

late and probably irrelavent reply but some people disable weapon bobbing in gzdoom to prevent serious motion sickness from occuring. Most people aren't that sensitive but some people are.

Ah yes. This mod has tons of "fun" monsters to go up against. Including (but not limited to): - Completely invisible Spectres, who you won't know are there until they've ripped your face off. Even if you could see them, they can lunge crazy distances, and stick to you like glue. - Pain Elementals that quickly spam lost souls. Lost souls that produce even more (less powerful) lost souls when destroyed. - High tier Cacodemons are just killers. There is a boss tier Cacodemon even worse then the one shown in this video (much worse). - The Baron Twins. Two terrors that ghost through walls, and produce a bunch of spectres. It's implied it's the 2 barons from E1M8 haunting you with a vengeance. - You pretty much have no chance against the higher tier Cyberdemon variants. The yellow one can spam AoE THROUGH WALLS. - Benellus the Shotgun God. AKA, RNG really, really wants you dead....

DaRealSabre You just wait until you get to play it with russian overkill on a horde map/maps of chaos. I highly recommend using "Red Oktoberfest" difficulty, it boosts enemies's health and damage just enough and gives you just enough collectables to go around and blast everything in the face. Also it now has red and black cyberdemon and spider mastermind.
