Great review. I have had hit and misses with Gold Cups over the year. The best one I ever had was a 1977 production with a Collet Bushing, was a tac driver.

Interesting; my '77 rattled so much a gunsmith said he could hear me coming. Not much "repeatability," as famed 1911 gunsmith Kuhnhausen called it. Probably still shot better than I did. Finish was flawless.

Awesome 1911! Glad there wasn’t as many cosmetic problems with that one.

The one at my lgs was even more sloppy . Barrel was moving and clicking. I’ll try and see if it’s still at the store to record. Off the lust list.

Jared. I bought a gold cup in the mid 80s. I had to have clarks custom guns accurize it . Its good now, but it was not good out of the box. You live and learn.

I would hope these new ones are better than some other GCNM examples I've seen from different years. They really are beautifully styled, but in typical colt fashion have suffered from all kinds of Colt QC issues and variance over the years.

I have been shooting 230 grain 45 cal . At 15 yards in the 10 ring ,and head shots in smaller target. 100 rounds and no jams. Mine is stainless steel, which requires a little more lubercation , than the blue version.

Nice piece!!! I have similar and love it!! I hate the etching wish it was smooth laser like the old days.. ONE mag.. they're doing us a favor. I normally swap them out for better mags anyhow.

I'm surprised Dan Wesson/CZ hasn't improved Colt's 1911 line yet, like it has with the revolvers coming from Colt. The QC on Dan Wesson/CZ 1911s are excellent.

Yep. The revolvers are amazing

She's a beauty alright but still a bit of a bummer they effed up on the thumb safety finish. Aagghh! So close Colt. So very close! Great video Matt!

Beautiful pistol and great review... Love the polished flats, esp. on blued Colts. Very interesting, you changed up your load on the 200 gr bullets. I've read over the years that Gold Cups are really designed for 200 gr and 185 gr bullets... evidently, shooting large numbers of 230 gr projectiles will cause more wear and looser tolerances over time on Gold Cup pistols... Can anyone validate if this is true??

I heard decades ago that the Gold Cup was intended to shoot lower-powered semi-wadcutters and so came with a lighter recoil spring than the Government Model. Shooting standard hardball rounds would therefore loosen it up. Don't know if there's any truth to that, I also seem to recall that the GC also had a tiny sear depressor spring that the Government Model didn't have. Didn't look too rugged. Please let us know if you decide to contact Colt for a definitive answer to your question.

can you switch out the thumb safety for an extended thumb safety?

Sure. But then it wouldn’t be factory original. 🤠

Hello, I live in Turkey. I followed you and bought a Tisaş 1911 here. Colt is very expensive here and is not always available. What do you think is the difference in quality?
@grousedog88Ай бұрын
Dumb sorta question, but do you think ,that a price control, maybe the one mag companies are actually an anti gun policy ?
