Merry Christmas! I’ve not been overly impressed with the “quote, un quote” Performance Center guns for the last few years. I wish I had confidence that they were actually a finer product. I’ve really enjoyed the new Colts and Ruger revolvers. Smiths from the 70’s and 80’s seem much better than now, I may be wrong in my thinking but that’s my opinion. Thanks again for the video, I hope you have a great Christmas and new year!

I think the X-factor in the old revolvers was the hand assembly and fitting by the old artisans in the factory. Modern manufacturing leaves little room for those touches today. I don't have nearly as much experience with Ruger revolvers and need to try to change that. The Redhawk I have is a beast!

I am SOOOO glad you decided to make this video. I've owned my 629 V-Comp for close to a decade I think and I LOVE the gun. I've been lusting over a Colt Kodiak since they announced it so this video was as perfect for me as could be. I don't have the budget to add the Kodiak but it's high on my wishlist.

With luck, it will remain in the catalog for some time and you can pick one up when the budget can bear it. I'm really glad the video was relevant for you and hope you liked it.

Interesting video. I'm a Colt Fan. However, I do own a 30 Year old, S&W 686, 6'. The action on that Gun is Second to none! Don Blake

Thank you for the video. Very good info, even if that version of the S&W is no longer available. Porting is a good thing imo for all these bigger revolvers, .357 and up. Colt for the win. That thing is blazing accurate.

@@JustinOpinionChannel The problem isn't the budget I'm living on a police pension. The problem is that once you own and shoot one you'll want more, they're that good. I started out with 1 and now I have 4. I've done videos on a couple I own but haven't shot my 44 Magnum yet. My videos are short and amateurish compared to yours.

I would love to see more V-Comp videos, it's extremely underrepresented on YT. I put the Hogue "recoil absorber" grips that go on the factory X frame guns on my 629 V-Comp. I don't know if it made a huge difference but I think it does help a little 🤔.

CTK Precision - compact rest. They also have a longer one for rifles that can use an optional vise attachment.

I have the regular Anaconda and the Wilson Combat rear sight is a huge upgrade but it adds $100. The single-action is 6.25lbs it uses the same grips as the Python which is nice

I was wondering why you didnt adjust windage on the Smith during rest. Seemed like you were consistently shooting left. Good comparison thought. I was recently looking at the Kodiak and was shocked at the price. Didnt realize 44 mags were that much lol. Ive got 357 (2) but want to add the Kodiak. I dont hunt so this is just a "i want it" purchase. Time to save up
@JustinOpinionChannel5 сағат бұрын
You answered your own question when you typed the word "consistently". For this type of measurement, it doesn't really matter where the group is - it's the size of the group. It certainly does suggest a sight adjustment might be in order, but that wasn't necessary for the day. As for price - revolvers are material-heavy and have fairly intricate gears and timing. It costs more to make them. 44 Mags are large-frame revolvers so will always be pricey.

I'm immediately curious about the muzzle velocity of the same round from both guns. The Smith has a full 4-inch barrel with the compensator off the crown.. The 4.5" Colt barrel may be only as long as the distance to the first of the three ports in terms of MV. I say that because I've heard of porting reducing MV. I wonder if felt recoil could be less from the Colt partly because MV is less (and weight a little more).
@JustinOpinionChannel14 сағат бұрын
Now you've got me wondering... but my logic tells me that the escaping gas is predominately behind the bullet, which would not alter propellant. I agree, it would be an interesting test and I might try it sometime. But it might be difficult to remove all the small variables to make the test really meaningful.

Colt has been putting subpar rear sights on their Python series instead of Elliason style. Which type comes on the Kodiak?
@billj56458 сағат бұрын
Colt still knows the secret to revolver accuracy. The pythons were always accurate and it seems that they have brought this forward to the Kodiak. S&W can produce accurate revolvers but on the average they are not so good, what you get when you buy one is a matter of chance. I don't know about guns from other companies from the past, and I've seen colt single actions that weren't accurate, but the modern Colt double action revolvers seem to be very good.

I yearn for a new model 2020 Colt Anaconda in six inch barrel length and would get it quad ported by Mag-Na-Port.

I think you would do better with the s&w if you would/could just hold it as steady as the colt.
@JustinOpinionChannel5 сағат бұрын
That could be, but back-to-back testing - same shooter, ammo, rest, conditions, etc. That's one reason I generally offer the "Best 3" numbers too - that helps take out some of the variable shooter error that might occur.

Did anyone notice the TINNY sound,the SMITH made during dry fire? Thats the MIM parts singing the song of CHEAP!! Colt may be needing some heads-up QA work,but!! SMITH has shot themselves in the foot,quality wise;for 2 DECADES! WTH;are they playing at? Go back to your proper design SMITH!! you had winners for almost a CENTURY in that!

Good evening, Justin and family. 💪🇺🇸💪🍻. 🎊🎁 MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎁🎊. No kidding. Seems like both are very nice quality and fun to shoot. Yes, I can see where the kolt would be a pain in the butt if you fired it a lot on the front site getting dirty quickly. I get that on my shadow systems XR920P pistol. The front site will get dirty quickly with certain ammo. If I had to choose. Colt Kodiak, for sure.

Wild how the 240 grn bullets have been detuned over the years. Original specs from Remington in 1956 were a 240 grn gas check SWC (that actually weighed 245 grns) at 1580 fps from a 6 1/2" barrel. Charles Askins chronographed factory loads in 1956 at a 1520 fps average from a 6 1/2" S&W pre- Model 29. In 1982, using my 6 1/2" Model 29-2, the Remington 240 grn loads were at 1470 fps as measured with a Oehler chronograph. Fast forward to 2005, the newly produced Rem 240 grainers were averaging 1350 fps from the same Model 29-2. To be fair, I'm slower now than I was in 1982 also. Overall, great video, thank you.
@JustinOpinionChannel14 сағат бұрын
Agree. I think we see that in other calibers as well. Part cost savings, and perhaps part due to customers wanting lighter recoiling loads?

Colts accuracy is much better in this test. Smith and Wesson sucked to be honest. 15 yards off a rest and Thats the best it could do. I would be so disappointed. Thats why I am not buying any Smith and Wessons anymore. Auto or revolvers. 25 years ago the revolvers were great. I realize a hand load could be developed and it might have a favorite factory load, but who needs a picky gun.

"Justin", great video, but way back when in Ye Olde Days we didn't need an orange front sight to hit the targets with our Colt revolvers. Cheers & Merry Christmas!
@JustinOpinionChannel14 сағат бұрын
I think we needed them and just didn't know what we were missing! Blued front sights disappear quick in low light or glare. I think the orange inserts were introduced in the '70s if not even earlier though.
