Colt Mark IV series 80 Government .380 update. Wolff springs coming!

My dad had this gun. He had the ramp and barrel throat polished a little more from a qualified gun smith. It never jammed after his action polish job. It shot like a wet dream. But he sold it before he passed away. I was bummed when I discovered that fact. He also had some factory 8-round mags he got from his life long friend that worked for Colt Mfg. I’d give anything for that gun. I did however end up getting his Colt Mustang II Pocketlite .380, which he had a polish job done. It shoots ALL .380 rounds I’ve ever run through it. I carry it cocked and locked in a Vedder pocket holster. I have it in my pocket now as I type. It’s my daily carry around the house. One noticeable difference between the government model is it was obviously smaller and… it did not require a barrel bushing. It’s a real easy mini take-apart model gun. The .380 government model was almost 2/3rds (78%) the size of a full size 1911 .45acp. I believe it was colts version to compete with the Walther PPK/s model .380. I personally think the Colt was/is BETTER as it was a single action. The perfect defensive pistol.

Yeah even after polishing the ramp and throat it was way better, I thought it was fixed, but after 50-60 rounds it was malfunctioning again. Some guys were saying they’re not meant to shoot that much- I call BS- if you can run a gun more than 50 rounds without cleaning it, I don’t want it

I have a 1911 A1 that’s pretty reliable, but I wish I bought one with better sights. The low A1 sights are a bit tough to see sometimes

I inherited a 1993 mustang PLUS 2. THEY DIDN'T MAKE A BUNCH OF THE 380 PLUS 2. Being a Marine I love a 1911 for combat. For carry this little jewel is so accurate and having 8 rounds to protect you. What a great video. SEMPER FI Neal

Are you a gunsmith? Your understanding of Colt MUSTANG magazine is amazing. I inherited a 1993 Colt MUSTANG PLUS 2 380 THAT IS AN AMAZING COLT PISTOL. I'M A THIRD GENERATION MARINE SO OF COURSE I LOVE THE 1911 DESIGN, THE PLUS 2,.IS SUCH A RARE GUN THAT WILL NOT BE REMADE. I did see the return spring inside the grip that could cause an issue.i never had any clip issue with either one of of the plus,2 magazines that came with the gun in 1993. I'm so proud that Colt men find out what any potential problem Colt could have and how to fix them. If you look at return spring or magizine spring this is an easy problem to correct. I think I'm going to a gun smith and have those parts upgraded. My little brother had the same gun and put thousands of quality rounds through his with no issues at all. I've ever ad any issues at all even though I've only put two hundred quality rounds though it. I think they plus2.isbgoing to be a rare special gun in the future. It's not my mint Colt Cobra 1969 FIRST generation 38 with brown box with yellow factory WRITING or my other inherited Colts. Being a Marine you know I would love Colts. What should I do brother? No I’m not a gunsmith, I read a lot and have good mechanical skills. My gun had a fatal flaw. I never fixed it even after new recoil springs, changing a few parts, new magazine springs, polishing… it just has some tolerance that was off and I couldn’t fix it. Unfortunately I sold mine and bought something else that works

There’s a lemon every once in a while, in general Colts are good, but mine was not

Great video and thanks for the warning about the ejector lever going south way too low. Do you know if there's any pinky grip or extension magazines available for this gun? My hand is slightly too big for this grip but i love my gun.

I don’t think there are any pinky extensions for these, they were meant to be as small as possible in the frame, and haven’t been made for years.

Great gun… unfortunately like most Colts are a pain in the ass to strip down. I actually had a piece fly out and I had to scramble to find it. Again a great gun. Not so strip down. I own an Sig now … best gun out there… doesn’t matter if it’s the P220/ 226/ 227 I will say stay away from the 227 … for me it was to heavy. I stick with my 220 or the 226

No but I’m sure you can find a video or post- I did when mine flipped. If I recall you need to take the grips off and use a small screwdriver to pull on the leaf spring and flip the ejector around

I have no idea, I don't have your gun in my hands to look at it. Take it to a Gunsmith or have a friend who knows about firearms look at it.

Mine a 1991. Do you have the government .380 or a mustang, or pocketlite? They made later ones that were similar, but not quite the same.

@@stuartmarkman769 The mustang is a little different. The Government 380 is for all intent and purposes a mini 1911. the Mustangs look the same, but have some different parts

@@crankygunreviews I noticed that the Mustang has no barrel nut so I assume the other differance is in the recoil rod and spring. I haven't disassembled the gun because I don't shoot it. But thanks for your info.
