nothing beats the look of the python as a revolver and it performs well but the kimber is a great carry revolver in that 4in range so python for the collection but kimber for everyday carry in my opinion

I bought the K6S combat after your review. it's the only revolver I'm going to keep. it's the same size and width as a 1911, which I'm very very familiar with. I changed the grips for Kimber's square butt grips with no finger grooves. it's the perfect all-around revolver for my use. thank you for making that review, I don't think I would have come to this conclusion without it. it's a gem. we've needed real new takes on the revolver format and Kimber really shook the tree.

If you put a Hogue rubber grip on the Kimber, it makes a huge difference in control and shoot ability. It is lighter and slimmer, which makes it much easier for carry.

You did an honest review, just retired and got the kimber k6s 3” which I carry on my ankle. The most comfortable gun I ever carried on my ankle. It’s surprisingly accurate and easy to shoot. Friend has Python, awesome range gun but I tried it on the hip, pulling pants too much throughout the day. Don’t get me wrong, hip carry the best, but for 20 years, my back up was on my ankle. If you lose your gun in a fight wrestling, it’s always on the ground, ankle easy to get and handle threat. My other carry is an sig p228 west German made. Love the feel of a hammer on my thumb when I re-holster. Yes I have stricker fire guns, but just can’t get comfortable with no hammer to secure when blind holstering. No accessories on my carry guns, just on the end table draw guns have the toys. Remember, over 95% shootings are under 10 feet, it’s gonna be a point and shoot, no time for aiming, adrenaline takes over. Been in 7 shootings, on 2 I discharged. So when your at the range, I highly recommend to practice shooting with one hand from the hip to mid area shooting from. After time you will be able to shoot a shoe box size target from the hip with one hand. This will save your life. Not the bend rest shooting, not the 2 hand great stand shooting, not the gun light or red dot system. It will be your muscle memory that will save your life. You as a civilian, it’s a perp robbing you, once your gun goes BANG, they run or retreat if you miss him, so you don’t need 15 rounds. Law enforcement need 15 rounds, they deal with mentally ill who keep charging. Unless you are back country for big 4 legged animals, then yes the 12-15 rounds are needed because they are hard to hit if charging. Best of luck

Thank you for the review! The only reason I can see people choosing the Kimber over the others two options is the lighter weight, size, and smoother profile for a concealed carry option. Compares more similarly to S&W’s smaller framed revolvers and the Ruger Sp101 in my opinion. Thanks again!

Thanks for this review, Hunter! I’m a Ruger fan. Got a 3” GP-100 myself that will always have a home in my carry rotation. I’ll be giving a King Cobra to try someday after I open my shop. Not a fan of the 4.25” barrel contour and I legit will pay someone to smith/emulate the original King Cobra barrel by making it a 4” with the original underlug angle cut. Might even alter the sight system too. Basically I want a modern version with all the strengths but looks more like the original. Sadly, the only throwback I can see on the new ones is the “King Cobra” roll mark. All that said, I think that Kimber makes a good revolver. And I would trust it over one of their 1911’s. But they definitely focused more on compactness, weight, just overall carry-ability. And when you do that, shooting it isn’t going to have the same pleasurable experience as a heavier gun with bigger grips. There’s no free lunch. I do love the Python though. And I’ll always have one in my store as long as I can routinely get one from a distributor.

I don’t necessarily disagree, however you are comparing two similar L frame sized revolvers in the Colt and Ruger to a D frame sized Kimber. The Kimber serves a different mission than the Colt or Ruger, i..e concealed carry. Of course a 29oz. Revolver will have more felt recoil than a 40+oz. one, basic physics. Of course a 29 oz. Revolver will carry easier! If recoil is too much will full bore 357 mags, go to the mid-range stuff or 38+P and change to a LOO grip and the Kimber will nicely fill a CCW role, while the Colt or Ruger will more adequately fill a different role! 🇺🇸👮🏻‍♂️👍🏻

I own the python and the K6s target. The kimber has by far the best trigger and the sights are also better (target model). Yes the python handles the hotter rounds a little better. But I’m reaching for the kimber first. I’m way more accurate with my kimber. All just my opinion and preference.

@@rangehot I think what it is, is there's a pretty wide margin for error/tolerances as to the DA/SA trigger pull weights on the Kimber. I've seen it measure anywhere between 8-11lbs DA & 3.5 -5lbs SA, just my 2 cents

I think revolvers are not only still relevant, but I think they’ve made some strong headway in the last few years. I believe that Kimber started the run with their 357 magnum revolver line and then recently with colt reviving their snakes series of revolvers. there is no question that you see a lot of revolvers in the gun shops and stores now and there’s a lot more wider variety, hence the spike in popularity of revolvers again. The Kimber is extremely popular and if you look online the reviews are top notch. It’s not that often that I see any videos on Kimber‘s having issues or quality control problems. I think it would be ideal if you want to carry it occasionally and it would be fun to shoot because it is lightweight and very well-built. Maybe it doesn’t handle the really hot loads as well as the others, but how often are you going to be shooting the hottest loads there is? There are plenty of 125 grain ammo selections now, in 357 magnum, that have plenty of power and devastation behind them. The Ruger is a great gun, but I believe the Kimber is better! As far as the python goes, the grip is definitely larger, but I noticed the trigger guard drops down really low and sometimes gets in the way of my support hand when I’m holding the python. I think the python is definitely the best build quality and nicest looking, probably the best trigger as well, but the Kimber is right there with it for $400 less! In most applications, I think the Kimber might be the better choice overall. They’re all three very nice revolvers, and this day and age, I think I would pick a revolver over a semi auto in many situations. Thanks for the video :-) you did a great job

Another fine review sir and very well done. I think revolvers are still a good choice despite their alleged lack of capacity, which I think is the first criteria for some folks and not necessarily the most important. My deer hunting buddy couldn't hit a barn with a semi-auto if you put him inside of it, yet with a revolver was all over the bullseye. I know availability plays a lot into it, but I'd be interested in you doing a comparison with the Kimber K6, Colt Python, Ruger GP100, Colt King Cobra and the S&W 686 and would like to hear what you have to say about them.
@rangehot

Personally, Ive been very interested in the Kimber K6S 4" Combat, and thats because of a few small reasons. 1) I love the very smooth & streamlined aesthetics that lack "hard lines." Its a very imo sexy revolver. 2) The ~25% less weight and smaller dimensions compared to the Python (or other similar size/cap./length revolvers) make it seem to me to be more versatile, as in, its a good OWB open carry revolver, but smooth & light enough to conceal if you're feeling frisky 😏 3) Unfortunately I have a bit smaller hands, and the grip size/feel on handguns makes a load of difference. One of my favorite firearms is the Beretta 92 series, however they're bulky as hell in the grip without getting a bunch of work done or finding the elusive 92M variant. 4) I also have a (seemingly odd) preference for fixed "combat" style iron sights. Obviously all these points are purely subjective and preference based, but thats why I think I'd go with that Kimber personally 🤷

You'd have to be a little bit crazy to shoot 357's out of the Kimber. The fact that the Kimber is capable of shooting the 357 cartridge is probably just a selling point. I wouldn't recommend it, but that's just me. The Kimber is a great size and weight for possible EDC, not so much the other two. Most revolvers these days are ridiculously expensive. At least they aren't ammo sensitive and don't require a break-in period, a big plus. 👍

For 2023, Ruger changed a lot of the status of their revolver line to "Currently Unavailable" or to "Limited Availablity" on their website. The fixed sight Match Champion is listed as available, but the adjustable sight version of the Match Champion is currently unavailable. To say since 2017 when Colt re-introduced the Snake gun line, they have really cut into Ruger's dominance and market is a sugar coated understatement. I have not seen any brand new Match Champion, Redhawk or Super GP100 models on any store shelf in years.

Thanks for sharing brother. Though I love me some Kimber K6S I agree with you with a caveat. Those big meat hooks of yours and mine prefer the larger grip because it fills the palms of our hands making it easier to control. Though I would chose each one of those for different situations hence the caveat. Kimber K6S for Carry, 6 shots lighter than the other 2 and not all that bad to practice with on the range. GP100 for home defense great to practice with on the range, durability never an issue, low glare and reflective profile unlike the highly polished Python. Python would get slotted into Competitive Revolver activities and just in case I get asked to star in the next walking dead movie I am prepared.😁😁 I absolutely love this comparison and appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us.
