@@Wildwest89 Your right man do you have any suggestions on what might improve timing ?
@paulkopacz5051 Жыл бұрын
@@Wildwest89 I had no problem with the timing at all. The cylinder and ring were literally a drop in fit. If I didn't want to do the full conversion (No cutting the blast shield) it would have worked just as well but I wanted to do the full conversion and so I did. The cutting was fairly easy and straight forward with a Dremel and the smaller sanding drums, I used three drums to complete the job.
@feraligatorade99 Жыл бұрын
my kirst walker conversion is a tiny bit slow; thumbing the cylinder while pulling the hammer back results in the hammer being fully cocked milliseconds before the bolt snicks into the cylinder notch. As long as I bottom out the hammer every time I cock the revolver it stays in time.@@paulkopacz5051

Kirst konverters are great on colt style repros when the back of the receiver is modified for the loading gate and firing pin ring. It’s better on them than the Howell conversion cylinders are. I prefer the Howell .45 colt cylinders on Uberti 1858 Remington style .44 caliber repros hence I bought an Uberti 1858 Remington style .44 caliber repro and a Howell fluted .45 colt conversion cylinder for it and both arrived the same day over 2 months ago and I made an unboxing video and posted on my channel and when I shot it for the first time nearly a month ago I made a video of that too and posted it on my channel

I just watched a video in which someone was shooting the .45-55 Walker in a conversion the other day. Do you know if the cartridge is a modern creation or was it actually used in original conversions back in the day? There is not much info/load data out there on the .45-55 Walker. All I know is that the casings can be formed using cut/resized .303 British or .460 S&W cases.

I did both, my 1851 & 1860 with Kirst Konverter kits. The timing on the 1860 was fine, but I had to do a little tweeking of the timing on the 1851, only because I wanted to be able to shoot the C&B cylinders in them as well. As far as that little bit of looseness on that recoil shield, that's a good thing, so the cylinder doesn't bind. When I take them to the range, people are quite intrigued when they see me jamming cartridges into what they think is a cap and ball revolver. THEN the questions start lol.

I love it. That is probably the most convenient way to change up a Colt. I can't wait to see it shoot. I put a conversion cylinder on my 1858 Remington Carbine. It was a pain to load, a pain to clean, unlike the handguns which were rather easy. I found that it liked the cowboy loads I made for it and my other 45's of Italian lineage. They shoot really well. Though not a Ruger tightness, they were just fine for what I do. Here's the video I made kzbin.info/www/bejne/gouwZp-Cg6tnotk

In my country is not possible to change the cylinder for use metal cartridges, because it change category of the gun from C (free to buy and use for +18) to B (it needs permissions , a lot of burocracy etc). But of course , it's more safe and simply to use metal cartridges instead of cap and ball !!
