Midwayusa have Uberti remington new model for a good price so for a 2024 Christmas present to myself, it's on the way. I also ordered slixshot nipples and wrench on GOTW advice, might as well order the 44 paper cartridge kit also.

Your burn test proves why you DO NOT use Pyrodex in flintlocks. It causes multiple "hang fires" due to its slow burn rate and more heat required to light if off. Percussion caps have more heat than powder in the flintlock's pan.

Just cannot understand the thinking of putting an oiled felt wad against the powder propellant in any cap and ball revolver???????????

Just tried the CCI # 11 on my Pietta/Remington New Army and they would not stay on the nipples. I had to bend the end of them a bit with fingers to get them to stay on. Maybe the Pietta nipples are slightly smaller in diameter.

I have a 1858 Remington and a old pietta 1851 that doesn't even have saftey notches so you have to load 5 in it if you carry it both are 44 cal. I want a 1851 36 cal, walker 44 cal, dragoon 44 cal and 1860 44 cal next. That's all I'm gonna buy cap and ball black powder wise for pistols after that I'm done with buying them those are the only ones i want that I don't have.

I have the same pistol . I burst the barrel on it leaving it loaded several months. under the seat of my old pickup in spring time .. I took it out and commenced firing off rounds in a hurry .The second to last round only made it part way through the barrel .When i fired the next round the pistol went over my head & back behind my shoulder. My right arm still isnt right from that ordeal. That was 25 years ago. Would i trust it a month loaded yes. IF I had CCI caps & not those trashy Remington things (i got about 5 or so duds out of every can of those i bought) .

Just stumbled on this video. As I'm writing this, in 4 hours, it will be 2025 🎉🎉 My collection is similar. I have a Rancher and a 16" pistol grip. In addition, I have a 9", two 6 1/2". I had two 4 3/4", but I totally destroyed the front sight on one of them. I didn't have a Barkeep yet, so I slapped it into the table vise and hack sawed it off to 1". I fashioned a front sight out of a copper rivot and soldered it on. That things a blast to shoot. Carries nicer in a coat poc ket or even your front jeans pocket.....and it shoots magnum. Its loud .😅 The only length I don't have is the Wyatt Earp 12".

Just a suggestion, reverse those bolts on your press. You can get hurt working around it with those bolts sticking up. Great video by the way. I think your knowledge and teaching method is commendable!

These are basically a Ithaca Model 72 . Henry either bought the patent from Erma Werke or copied the rifle exactly. It's the exact same rifle. Didn't even clean that new barrel? Taking a chance leaving the tooling debris and fluids in there.

The Remington is also much more efficient than the Colt. At the same load, it is more powerful and it can also be loaded even more than the Colt. The Remington almost equals in power with a Walker Colt, both at full load and with less powder in the Remington given its shorter cylinder. It therefore has a much better yield than open-frame Colts, which is logical in a way. You could therefore save on black powder with a Remington if you are looking to achieve a defined power.

I love your videos, Sir. In just 7 minutes I’ve received so much unexpected yet interesting and valuable information. For instance, I didn’t know that loading is done with cylinder pin, and it’s a historical way of doing it! Also, the fact that 00 buck shot can be used as a projectile for this gun is also mind blowing to me! I may sound like a noobie, but I don’t care 😊 Thank you!

So you can always have the barrel of the shotgun loaded and you can always shoot with it in case you are attacked while you have dismantled the revolver for a quick change of the cylinder. It may be used for this when you go into cover to do this reloading. The attacker being forced to reproach himself to come and dislodge you from your hiding place, the range of the shotgun is ideal for this kind of occasion. As for its cocking in case of stress, I think that the weapon itself requires a sufficiently strong concentration to use it due to the fact that it is not a double action. Having to rearm the hammer after each shot whether with the left or the right hand, already requires a certain concentration and a certain amount of training so I think that it does not require much more practice to cock the shotgun in reality. In fact, if you can't cock this thing already, chances are you won't even be able to shoot straight enough or hit a target for it to make much of a difference anyway.

Great video! Please do not cock with your left hand -- back then, shooters did not hold their pistols using both hand, they need to be able to cock only with their right hand...

I bought one (4.75" barrel in 357), it had problems with timing and possibly a bent cylinder pin from the first shot on. Mine locked up on the first shot, the cylinder will not rotate in any cocked position for loading or to enable the use of the extractor, and it locks up every few shots. I managed to fire 18 rounds but only after taking it apart a few times at the range.

Mine is a boat anchor; failed on the first shot, the cylinder won't rotate and it is a chore to get the cylinder pin back in. I fired it 18 times, and took it apart a couplie of times to get those 18 rounds down range. I have owned many 1873 Peacemaker copies and this one is unusable. Taurus is 'reviewing' my complaint; in the meantime, I have an unusable piece of garbage on my hands.

Hello. I have a Colt 1849, manufactured in 1851. When i reload it, the powder (fffg) falls from the percussion caps opening . Maybe i have to install percussion caps end then reload black powder ? Thank you

The dictionary says a “weapon” is something used injure, defeat, or destroy. So is a target rifle a weapon?

Love your videos. I have a question which is how do your smooth your reproductions? Can that not be done with a Dremel? I have a 5 inch Pietta Remington smoothed out with a Dremel by a gunsmith friend. He put a beautiful trigger job on it, then he died of Covid - not that there is any causal relation. Working with a Dremel is much easier than with Duelist's files and emory cloth.

I used to say on the Walker 40 grains for practice 50 grains for action, the grease the head of the cylinder they used to drip paraffin on the ball caps once they're in place either a dead cylinder or quarter cock

1851 just looks, "right" nothing against the 1861 but it feels a bit try hard. I think the Remington Model 1858 kinda did what the 60~61 was trying to do better and has the reinforcement over the top of the cylinder which just feels...wise. I have a CVA 1858 my father built in my collection, it's all brass so I don't shoot it much. Maybe some day I'll put it in a shadow box with some pictures of him shooting SASS.
