Some really neat stuff being built on the On X challenge. Been welding for over 40 years and didn't know the soot trick. Always learning but the spray cans one can buy for the same purpose is faster and more convenient plus you can use it on your nozzle and tips and jigs. But still interesting.

When I worked at a welding shop for a short stint welding hitches and what not, we always used soapy water and the little dingle berry's would wipe right off.

A few decades ago we would have built a roll cage with that pipe or worse. I have built some really sketchy rigs, but I lived. Not many breaks of what I built, but we would go to the junkyard and scavenge together parts of cars and some junk iron pipe, some I beam, some angle and I welded it together with 7018 rod. Hey it usually worked and it cost nearly nothing.

I think the best way to cut the arcs in trailing link brackets is to use a piece of tubing the same diameter as the axle housing and trace the arc on the bracket to get a perfect fit.

Years ago I had opportunities to be in the big 3 prototype garages. I do not remember which one I was in but I saw a 4 inch tie down being used as a safety to keep a prototype vehicle on the lift. I was told it only took the destruction of one 1/4 million dollar proto to get new safety procedures implemented.

I have never had luck welding with the joints in the tube adapter, i used to have sarificial bolts that i would thread in a few turns, i quit even using them yesrs ago. I was always worried about the dingle berries messing up the treads but since i stopped worrying about it, I have never had an issue.

I think the plasma torch was an attempt at an air arc like when you're trying to get the main swing boom pin out of a backhoe you put your torch oxygen to a piece of brakeline and but it in your ark welder turned up turn the oxygen on clip the brakeline in the stinger strike an ark it'll blow a hole right through the pin when it cools it drops right out is it safe probably not does it work sure does

I'd buy that plasma cutters were an accident. If you throw a holder in front of the stream and use inert gas, it would probably do spray transfer. I love watching Abom79 build up shafts using spray transfer.
