Columbia protesters occupy Hamilton Hall as university standoff escalates

The UN Human Rights Chief - Volker Turk - says he's 'troubled' by measures taken to disperse protests against Israel's war on Gaza in universities across the U.S.
Dozens of protesters have barricaded themselves inside a building at Columbia University in New York.
The group has taken over Hamilton Hall, which has a history of student takeovers, including during the Vietnam war.
They unfurled a banner calling it 'Hind's Hall', in memory of a six-year-old girl killed in Gaza.
It came hours after the university started suspending student demonstrators who defied an ultimatum to leave their encampments.
Al Jazeera's Kristen Saloomey is monitoring developments at the Colombia University in New York where it all began and Shihab Rattansi will have the latest from George Washington University in the US capital.

The demonstrators are breaking the law. They can be arrested and prosecuted. Some aren't even students. The students can be suspended and exoelled. Those who are not US citizens can be deported and banned for life from returning to the United States. The Trustees and Administrators will not be intimidated or bullied. They have the legal power to control what happens on campus and how the college trust fund is administered. The Coast Guard is exempt from Posse Comitatus and can use force, even lethal force without being prosecuted. More likely the national guard or state militia might be called in to break up the demo stration and arrest any resisters. Their demands will not be met and they are pointlessly putting themselves at risk.

With the MONEY the universities make why is any student in America paying tuition? These universities make enough money a year to pay for your education, your kids education, and your grandchildren’s education. However, they instead give it to countries like Israel who turn around and give it to the U.S. government to buy weapons.
