Imagine the classroom teacher talking about how great Columbus was, and then a student quotes this line.
@badpiggies988 Жыл бұрын
He was a dumb 22 year old who literally thought Florida was an island and that people who didn’t look or sound even remotely Asian Indian were Indian, and it was actually Leif Erikson who discovered the New World. And yet we Americans named every other city and almost our country itself after him- and would’ve done so if “Columbia” wasn’t already taken by then.

@@gabbidurham Its not about whats wrong its about what was normal at the time, it used to be normal back in cave people days to rape women (often violently) if we had historical cavemen on record people would be bitching about them like they are through the modern lense. You are implying I think its okay, no they did what they felt was necessary to acquire resources long before the numerous comforts we have today
@eduardomantilla21433 жыл бұрын
@@DTheCritical Except they had comforts back in their day and were just greedy bastards since they showed up, were met with amicable friendly natives, and then enslaved, raped, and slaughtered them because they didn't have the gold Columbus wanted. He decimated the population and almost wiped them out entirely. One thing is saying ok they did things for resources, another is Columbus selling their children into slavery, including sexual slavery, killing the natives with abandon, parading their dismembered bodies as warning to the others, etc. His genocidal ass needed to burn in the bad place even by their standards. So it's not about "modern standards." Genocide is wrong and has been wrong forever. Just that some people always excused it somehow, like hiding behind religion. 🙄💅

It's also interesting that Chidi should make that reference as Columbus and his folks ended in on the complete opposite end of the world from where they originally intended. Too bad they couldn't keep getting lost each time.

Also for those of you who seem to be so informed, think for a second about how many indigenous people there are left in the US or Canada and what situation they're in (reserves, drugs, unemployment...) and how many there are in South America. Yepp, that's right, apparently the Spanish weren't so terrible after all. Also they didn't have any problem to intermingle and procreate with the native people there, whilst you don't see a lot of mixed people up in North America. Have a good day!!
