I bought a Lustron Newport earlier this year (one of only 24 of the two-bedroom models ever made). It is really great! Unfortunately the outside had been painted. :( But the design is really amazing! Still has the original roof, windows, and siding. I want to visit the museum. They provide great information online for repairs and parts (like window cranks---which I used).

2022......Great exhibit,.....I went to it and there was an accompanying presentation. I knocked on the walls,.....( I didn't like the metallic sounds),...the floor felt lousy and metallic. However, I still loved the ingenuity involved in making them. Only magnets can be used to hold up things on the walls. I liked the built in color of both exterior and interior , but,....that has it down sides, if you want a new wall coloring. They are perfect if you love mid-century modern furniture,...they compliment each other. I grew up in the 1950s & 60s,...so I have good memories of that time. As an adult I collected household items from that era too. I recently read this will be apart of the historical museum's permanent collection.

I've been to that exhibit twice now, and I think it just looks great, a capsule of the times the Lustron was created. Speaking of which....in the closet, in the front room we have the Geiger counter, on the TV I recall it was showing the ever-popular Bert the Turtle in "Duck and Cover", and in the back yard the entrance to the bomb shelter!

There is a Lustron registry webdite. I looked, and 1 home in my area wasn't included. I tried adding its information, but the website seems to be a "dead end?"

Why do all these futuristic houses had bad luck? It's so strange! After this one there's the Westinghouse's Total Electric House and Monsanto's Plastic home of the Future and Xanadu: the home of the Future.

No. Not good enough. What about living in one? Get a woman in there to ask those questions if a man won't. :) I keep running across them--such as in the Chicago suburbs, soutern Indiana, and two in central SD. I'd love to go inside. The steel strikes me as chilling the aura of the house in winter, the reverse of what a fireplace would do. And did the building industry really organize to kill them, or did people prefer small homes they could easily expand with the baby boom? Why was it never revived?
